I agree. 6 months into a 24 month contract and you want to change it?
If I were the CSR, I would have said just go ahead and pay the cancellation fee. I've been with EV for 5 years and have no contract so I can understand receiving some kind of offer in that situation. Even that is a relatively new situation. Up until about a couple of years ago, EV offered nothing to long term customers, for any reason.
