Bell ExpressVu Retentions?

I agree. 6 months into a 24 month contract and you want to change it? If I were the CSR, I would have said just go ahead and pay the cancellation fee. I've been with EV for 5 years and have no contract so I can understand receiving some kind of offer in that situation. Even that is a relatively new situation. Up until about a couple of years ago, EV offered nothing to long term customers, for any reason.

I asked and received free install on my new 9242 and swap of 6100 and 4100 for another 9242.A few posts back you can read all the info. Of course, free to Bell means I pay 100.00 now and am refunded next month:rolleyes:! I must say I was very happy with customer service the last few phone calls.

The other way to look at it is you do not pay tax on the $300 in credits that go towards your bill.

It all comes out in the wash.

sub-prime lending comes to mind. Except that instead of charging a premium, they are just asking you to pay full price. At least you can just walk away.

we have bell and having just bought a fancy new tv. last tv purchase was 15 years ago so you can imagine the differences now. anyhow i email bell and ask what kind of deal i can get for an hdtv box n programming. get a friendly reply from rupinder. gives me the options. i email back and says why new customers get better deal. rupinder emails me back and says we are not eligible for that option. I email back pretty ticked and says in plain old english. you may wish to forward this email to someone in CANADA with authorization to fix what you have messed up. get friendly email from rupinder saying she is sorry but can't do anything. I email her back with a copy of shaws order confirmation and says you have one chance to stop the order. i get a friendly email back from rupinder asking me to call bell on the phone. i email her back and says now i know why you are still in INDIA. hmm.

Right, With a retention offer their goal is to keep you as a customer for a while. Giving you a deal on a receiver you'd purchase and resell the next month after you really cancel wouldn't be very effective for them ;)

you gotta tell them this came in the mail. Ed

Bell does have a retention department. I haven't tried it myself (yet) but I've heard stories of people getting pretty good discounts... it's worth a try I guess.

Edit: I just called up and after 5 minutes, I ended up with 30% off for 12 months. Definitely worth a shot.

It sates in fine print you have to swap your smart card. I don't know how that works as some don't have cards and the rest the cards don't belong to the receivers owner.

I find it hard to believe that the 80/20 rule applies here (although I appreciate the value of comping the whales).

Yeah, they need the money  They're making a mint on my phone bill...

Thanks to everyone for your info; Habskilla that seems like a sweet deal. I will call them back. I didn't consider the HD PVR since I was using my DVD recorder (with hard drive) to record, albeit not in HD. I currently have a SW21 switch that was for my 6100 and another line from 91 going in to the house. I read that the 9242 requires two inputs, so would having a sw42 switch connected work by having the PVR connected and then connect my DVD recorder with the s-video output from the PVR? I did a search but the SW42 switches don't seem to be readily available. I don't want to be running any more lines in from outside, so if need be I could go with the 6141.

legacy , you can look for suckers somewhere else , I know that no matter what provider you are with now , their hardware does not come even close to what Bell offers . When it comes to price I am getting better deal than other providers offer. I know that from reading special offers from them in the mail or over the phone , or from talking to other people. Not that I would be even interested switching providers so I could save few bucks a month.

LIP, I already went though this last spring and got a half price 9242 and 40% off for 12 months and yadda, yadda

I got another card in the mail last month from Shaw offering me to trade in my Bell for a free HD PVR from them. If your in an area ( not sure where you are ) that has Shaw... maybe try that.. deal / offer good till Feb 28th, 09 I think.

Don't jump the first day... say you will think about it and check with Shaw to see what you get.. maybe Bell will put you on hold....

Same here, and I'm not prepared to leave yet.

Call me stupid or paranoid, but I go on paying my usual full monthly cost, and I'm ok with that. Not sure I'd feel right calling to cancel just to get a discount anyway. To each his/her own I guess.

thats awsome...can i ask what number u called?
the regular one or is there something different? Also who did you ask to speak to

I think they do this (give retention gifts) to current subscribers under a contract; becouse some offers (like Rogers) are up to $750.00 in goodies; so by charging a $200-$300 cancellation fee they would still loose customers... (They would have lost me)

If you say the price of the receiver is what makes you leave, but really want to purchase, not rent what they do in case like those is to offer months free, to compensate for the hardware cost.

CSR explained they'd cover refunds, BUT, I would have to buy the switch and the dish arm. Nobody seems to stock the extra dish arm. Best buy/Future Shop only offer the older 9242 PVR on line for $599.

If all else fails, I'll order the new PVR from Bell on line and hope they have one they can ship (within 2-4 days as site says) and try to source the switch and arm elsewhere.

They never called back yesterday as promised to resolve my issue of where to get the new dish arm. Local satellite guy doesn't carry any parts at all, perhaps a wise choice on his part, but a pin on mine.

Why am I staying with Bell? because it's cheaper than Star Choice, simple as that.

I should have HDTV all hooked up and working perfectly for the 2010 Olympics.

Jim

As long as there are competition offers; there will be retention offers... As I stated before, some TV companies are giving hundreds of $$$ to buy you out as a new customer; BEV will do its share to retain you too... Give it a try when the time comes...
