Bell ExpressVu Retentions?

Hi there,
Heres my situation...my parents have been getting a few calls from cogeco over the past few weeks about switching back to them...we've were with them for some b4 switching to bell 16 months ago.

I finally called back this morning and they offered us something very very competitive.
One free HD PVR rental for 2 years, plus another free HD reciever. ( since we have one HD and one standered they obviously put a standered in lue of the 2nd HD)

Free HD programing for 1 year plus a 20% discount off the regular TV for one year.

total bill for first year is about under $60/month

What we currently have is 1 HD (no PVR), 1 standerd, 5 themes, HD plus 2 indian channels...bill is about $110 each month

What we gain...the PVR, what we lose, Indian channels (cogeco doesn't offer them)

Is there anyway as a current Bell surscriber to negotiate with them, do they have retentions like cell companies do. Im back home from univeristy this weekend and would'nt mind calling in and negotiating if for my parents. I know i've done this on my Rogers Cell and have a crazy deal.

If people have done than give me some feedback/ideas if it is even worth my time or if i should tell my parents to just switch over. ( they don't want to lose there indian channels but might be worth it)

Thanks for your help

I'm betting that Bell will indeed give you another retention deal after the year; just wait for the 3rd offer or the call back from retentions.... you'll see

Most of the retention deals that have been referenced in this forum involve free hardware rentals. Anybody ever get a knockout purchase price on hardware (like, say, one of the now replaced 9200s) in a retention deal?

Why is it that people who switch providers continue trying to convince themselves they made the right decision?

The facts are that Bell has lowered the SRP of their HD receivers by $100. Most people will appreciate that even though they eliminated a few features on the receiver. It would be nice if they would inform their CSR's and Bell World stores first, but they'll find out eventually. Only a small number of customers want the service on day one or two.

The other fact is that Bell followed through on last years announcement that the 6141 would be capable of becoming a single tuner PVR, a pretty inexpensive one at that! A little late, yes, but it's here now. Yes, there is a "green screen" bug that should have been caught in testing, but was not. It will get fixed.

Also, the pricing for the receivers is right on the Bell Web site, so if you find someone in denial, point them here http://www.bell.ca/shopping/PrsShpTv_Dth_Equipment_Landing.page

Scrooloose if your referring to me about having to convince myself about making the right decision switching providers. The only thing I should have done was to make the switch years earlier ! I had nothing but problems with bell services, problems with service outages, billing, to technical help. Maybe it was just bad luck that persisted for several years and over different services with me. In the time I have switched to different service providers I have: saved money, No billing issues, One technical issue with internet and I didn't need to jump through hoops and talk with people who couldn't understand what was wrong. The issue was fixed with no grief. I didn't go with one company for all my services, I learned and spread them out and take advantage of specials or negotiate with one over another and strike better deals then bundled packages. All in I have never thought I made a poor decision in leaving Ma Bell and like I said in my other post, I encourage others to leave the nest too.

All the retention offers involving hardware are on rental...never heard of a client getting discount price on a purchase!

I got offered 30% for a year or %50 for six months , I took 50% for 6 months. I was also prepared to leave and switch to Eastlink if they didn't make me a offer.

I'm somewhat of a new customer (about 3+ months), so I'm not sure if my situation qualifies for this thread. I'm currently paying $69 for my package (digital standard+ 4 HD+ 5 themes) and I would like to add one of the movie packages. That would make it $88/month. I'm wondering would I qualify for any reductions in my monthly payments if I add a movie package?

If you try to cancel your service they will transfer you call to retention agent (they call it loyalty for the client). That will try to make you an offer to make you stay. They will ask you why you want to leave and try to give you something to solve that. If it's due to availability of certain channels they will most probably try a month free, then 2, then 3.

They might also use 10% off for 3-6-12 months

Thats how the business works
Same for Cell phones, cable, etc...
Hearing of all the retention deals people are being offered, it almost makes me want to call in, but I'm afraid when I threaten to leave, I will get an angry CSR, who will call my bluff

Thanks for info. I think my friend didn't talk to retention, but he did mention that he would / might move to Shaw, but I guess that was not considered enough to be transferred to Retention. He's going to call them again, but unfortunately can only be after Christmas.

Once again my bill showed up with the 40% discount missing. This time
however the CSR said I had to pay the full bill and the credit would show up
next month and the 40% would be put back.

The 40% is set to end in August so I guess I'll have to go the whole song &
dance thing with the Retention Dept.

My 2 year rental contract ended in December. I fully intended to leave BEV but I must admit that for me their service has improved and it would seem all providers have their issues. Therefore I might be talked into staying. What I have now is 3 4100s and a 6100. I have purchased a second HD tv so I would need a 6141 and get rid of 1 4100 or a 9242 and get rid of 2 4100s and run 2nd SD set from 9242. My question is on installation charges. I know on rental contracts BEV must do the installation so do they charge for that on their retention deals? The 6141 would just plug in so that would be the easiest but I sure wouldn't pay the 75.00 charge for a BEV installer to do it. Anyone have any experience with this?

Hi,
Just wondering when it would be a good time to call retentions to get one of the deals some of you got? Is January a bad time or would they be more desparate for customers in February or doesn't it matter?

I have been with Expressvu for at least 5 years...my bill is about $80/month for the tv only. I want to get an HD package with the new PVR but would like to get a free rental for at least a year. I'm not sure what HD programming packages they would offer me as I'm sure my programming bundle is now no longer around...

What is the best approach with retentions? Is Rogers still offering the 2 year free pvr deal to people?

Thanks.

I don't think gorilla tactic's will work second time around . I think you will need a angle like a 9200 swap or buy your rental 9242 to get a deal as an old subscriber .Time will tell.

they only gave me 50% for 6 months when they've owed me a $550 credit for 9 months. what the hell!

I had a similar experience. Last Fall I got 3 months free service and 6 months free TMN. Today, I called again to cancel. I was offered 2 months free service to stay. I said no. Then I was offered a free 9242 for a year as well.

I canceled anyway. It's just not worth the grief of dealing with Bell.

I phoned last night to cancel................They offered me 30% off for 12 months and $300 off a new HD PVR. I decided to stay with them.
