BBC2 Horror Double Bill

Definately! Although I wouldn't object to a couple of the rarer 80's classics that don't usually show up on British tv.

Movies like the original "Prom Night", "Dawn of the Mummy" or "Phantasm"!

I don't have sky anymore so didn't know whether or not Zone Horror still existed.

Some time ago I heard the Zone Media channels had been bought by another company and the channels where going to be changed.

What happened to that?

I'd like Zone Horror to broadcast over freeview.

That's very true. The good news is that the producer of History of Horror mentioned that they were only scratching the surface with this particular programme and that they would like to make more shows looking at horror movies. :)

I signed the petition, I hope they bring it back..I loved watching the various horror movies on the BBC, much better than some of the tripe they show now!

I also remember watching a Dracula type character called "Deadly Earnest" who used to present horror movies on what is now Sky 1 every friday night, anyone remember him?

The Possessed - now that's a blast from the past!

It's hasn't been seen on British televison for years, but I remember it being eerily effective,in a minor way.Might have to buy it now,if it's out on DVD that is.

Not quite BBC2 material but there have been several classic tv movies over the years.

Don't Be Afraid of the Dark with Kim Darby must be one of the best remembered with its ghoulies behind the fireplace.

It's out on dvd in the US and Japan but rather hard to get like Bad Ronald.

The Kolchak movies are also out on R1 and The Night Stalker and The Night Strangler must be 2 of the best .

Hope Lange in Crowhaven Farm is another I'd like to see again

Personally i'd label 'Torture Garden' as being worse than DTHOH, but generally I agree with you they are the weaker end of the series. Yes it is funny how misleading a lot of the films titles were. Don't Forget 'From Beyone The Grave'. You think the main setting is going to be a cemetery or a church....by that title.....But it's set in a odRAB n' enRAB shop.

If I had to do a simple sweep of the Amicus movies i'd say

Poor:
The Torture Garden

Average
DTHOH

Pretty good:

From Beyond The Grave
The House That Dripped Blood

Excellent
Asylum
Tales From The Crypt
Vault Of Horror

I read the interview.

I used to have that Radio Times pictured in it:)

Did you watch the more recent horror double bills that I mentioned above?

The "It's scary out there" season?

And quite a few that would be considered classic by not many people apart from the fact they are old.

Blood On Satans Claw , Invasion of the Body Snatchers yes.

Astro Zombies ? I don't think so.

Regarding IOTBS , the UK dvd is in the wrong ratio , pick up the US one which is wider but not anamorphic.

Every story has its climax edited down or out in the cut version.
In one of the most painful examples of editing a few of the endings had the gory scenes removed and replaced by a still image while the soundtrack continued.

In the vampire story the close up shots of the victim quivering while he is upside down and being drained of blood via a tap on his neck have been replaced by a still image.

This cut version was aired by C4,Sky Movies and Film 4 until 2009.

The current version on Film 4 has been restored (at least the footage has ) by the BFI.

No restoration has been done to improve the generally poor picture quality.

Which is quite annoying when you see the beautiful quality on the R1 dvd which is cut

When CBS bought the Zone channels they left Zone horror freestanding namewise its still going as the Horror Channel/+1 on Sky Digital Channel 319/320, Virgin TV Channel 149 and Freesat Channel 138. I watch FTA using a skybox.

That was the classic version with Frederick March in the lead role, wasn't it!? I recall watching that then-but have never seen it advertised as being on telly since though.

Yes I just about concur with that.

After THTDB Bluray this year the next quest must be to get a version of Vault of Horror that is uncut and as good quality as the R1 disc.

As Film4 has just gone HD they are showing nothing but HD movies at the moment so VOH seems out of bounRAB.

I was going to re-record it in the hope that the image will be better thanks to the much higher bitrates they use on the HD channels so while VOH will still be sd it should be better than the previous recordings from the sd Film4
