BBC2 Horror Double Bill

They were great! All sorts of ancient creepy films were shown, and many havent been on since! I used to love staying up with the portable tv set on in my bedroom, no light on, watching the BBC2 logo draw itself across the screen, then the film beginning........it would have been the late 1970s.

I wouldn't get too hung up on what a horror classic is when making choices that's for sure. They would be designed as cheesy late night fun as much as anything else

The Earth Dies Screaming & The Sorcerers
The Night Caller & Inseminod
The Strange World of Planet X & Quatermass and the Pit
Night of the Demon & Village of the Damned
Fiend Without a Face & Witchfinder General
Blood on Satan's Claw & Theatre of Blood
Cover Girl Killer & Peeping Tom
Torture Garden & Madhouse

I'm old enough to remember Mystery and Imagination. No age guide then, just a reminder that it might not be suitable for those with 'a nervous disposition' :D And boy they were FABULOUS. :)

Not quite 70's but after god knows how many years lost in legal limbo the only film that has Carradine,Price,Cushing and Lee in the same cast has finally hit R1 dvd.

House of the Long Shadows is out on MGM

I recall seeing that-in 1982. Didn't one of the other stories than the one with the long-lost boy returning have a plot in which a man somehow convinces a believer in vampires that his wife's lover is a vampire, and has the man drive a stake through his heart while he is asleep?

I saw that on home video about a year after its release, I have to say I loved every minute of it. The tone is a long way from your typical Pete Walker movie.

Re Cover Girl Killer, thats the first time I'd seen it I'm pretty sure. Quite nifty and despite only being shot on about 4 different set-ups kept moving at a pace. You can see that Corbett was a proper actor. A pity that Steptoe kind of killed his "serious" career.

Halloween night 1992 sees a number of suitable programmes presented by a 'Dr.Walpurgis' who later on in the decade presented 'Doctor Terror's Vault of Horror.'

I used to love the BBC2 double bills when I was growing up - caused many a nightmare:)

I still love the old Hammer films especially the Dracula and Mummy ones, but also the other vampire films and the old dark house, the lost contient etc

There's a very nice Phantasm boxset with all 4 films on DVD for under a tenner if you shop around, there's also a limited set with a sphere that contains the dvd's.

Nowt to do with BBC but I mentioned Film24 and Brit horror in this thread, the channel is now a goner (just on a loop right now) but its replacements have been announced Electric Sofa Looks hopeful, AV pictures are one of the partners. Doesn't go on air until the late Autumn so details are sketchy but hopefully they'll look at rights to various retro Brit-Horror titles.

The Car starring James Brolin concerning a black saloon car that terrorizes a small US town. It's out on DVD, I bought it a few weeks back in HMV for (what seemed like alot for a 70's B movie)
