Batman Begins

I saw it last night and thought it was fantastic. It makes all of the previous films look cheesy now in retrospect (even Tim Burton's version  )

Highly enjoyed every moment and I'm glad they've decided to make Batman the most interesting character, rather than the villains. Also, Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow was indeed rather scary. I would have liked to have seen more of him.

The Batmobile rocked in my humble opinion - I liked the 'roughness' of it and I can imagine it being more 'souped' up in sequels. Bruce Wayne didn't have time to put together a flashy car in this film (like the Bat Cave as well).

Michael Caine was good light comic relief, but he does seem to just play himself these days. Katie Holmes inpressed me, as I was truly expecting to find her annoying, but didn't.

Roll on the sequel...

I believe Dent is being saved for Begins 2 because...

Joker will be in Batman Begins 2, get captured, and rumour has it Begins 3 will have Joker being sent to Arkham by Batman/Dent. Maybe Joker will have a hand in what happens to Dent to turn him into Two Face.

It's gone back to what Batman/Returns were like, not the stupid comic big blockbuster movies like Forever etc, it has gone back to the darker versions.

Can't wait for the film.

Yeah, I see where you're coming from. It's hard sometimes to put the other movies out of your mind when you're watching. Do you think the director is completely ignoring the other films then?

Do you really think they could pull it off? I doubt it.

Er... Batman drove a REAL tank in Dark Knight Returns. Not the half cooked one (that could fly  ) that they had in this film.
Probably small 'cos of budget cuts

On newsnight (dont normally watch it just caught them talking about Batsy) they bought up a valid point. Will batman work in a live real action based environment like chicago.

Gotham was created for a background for the batman. Ive a sneeky feeling that he might look awkward and out of place a little in a real world placing. The guy on newsnight said that really he neeRAB to be in staged studios and from what ive seen thus far (and wanting to be proved wrong here) I think he has more than a valid point.

I've seen the 10 min preview and IMO it looked all little poor, this could be due to the way its directed and staged though, just cutting and pasting clips to tell a story from a film is a bit like those naff telefilms you get now and again.

Is this aiming for a "dark night" approach or the more "etchical and moral dilemma" approach in the film.

Can you imagine if Frank Miller got his hanRAB on the script :D

its still decidely different to the original big screen outings by keaton so i hear...
closer to the definitive detective comics but with a bit more tech,.

I think Globe you are comparing it to much to the 1989 Tim Burton film which wasnt loyal at all to the comic!
In the comics The Joker did not kill Batman parents as they were killed by Joe Chill as in Batman Begins!
As for your coment about no baddies well the director Christopher Nolan said that Batman Begins is about Bruce Wayne/Batman and not the villians!

Ok you got me on that one as it's a few years since i read it, but the film one, like the film itself ,is just terrible, i would still prefer it if it was like the original Tim Burton/ Michael Keaton one with the armour plating that appears out of nowhere.

I saw Batman Begins yesterday and it is the one of the best films I have seen this year along with Sin City. It was a Batman film for the true hardcore comic book fans!
I just cant wait for the sequel now especially after the hint at the end!

Saw this last night.

Overall, a pretty good film and far superior to Burton's cheesy tension-free efforts. Some quibbles include the slightly over-long first section and the strangely undramatic car chase with the Batmobile. Thought the actor cast as the Scarecrow was the only piece of poor casting -- far too young and pretty.

I thought Katie Holmes was good despite the limitations of the role which demanded that she be saved from peril twice... once on the subway, the other later. At least she wasn't some simpering airhead but instead had a little grit... I also liked its darkness and the refreshing lack of syrupy emotion. Batman is supposed to be a nutter... :)

However, I could have easily waited for this to come out on DVD. Some movies need the big screen and this isn't necessarily one of them. The performances are good enough to hold your attention on a smaller screen unlike something like Revenge of the Sith which neeRAB to be on a big screen to appreciate the empty but huge spectacle which it is.

But the ending was good and I left the cinema immediately wanting to see the sequel...

Yeah he definatly is ignoring them and starting again. He has been talking about about the Batman sequels.

He said he'll be around for another as long as everyone else is but says he probably won't be around the day they bring Robin into proceedings.

If given the opportunity to cast Robin now - which he says neither studio or him wanted - he said he'd go 'young' and mentioned Frankie Muniz as a potential. "If he doesn't age too quickly...you never know I guess", he said.

"This is a young Batman, so Robin's a few films not for a few pictures anyway. Dick Grayson's still in a crib somewhere. I seriously doubt I will even be involved when Robin's in the franchise" says Nolan

Fair enough.I didnt know about how his parents were killed.
But I do think we needed some warning(ok I didnt read any write ups)that it was gona be so dull and colourless.
I suppose i saw it a s a pre-runner to the next movie.

I think I prefer it without Robin anyway. Batman by himself is menacing, but with his little sidekick it all goes a bit cheesy. On a different note though, Frankie Muniz is funny in Malcolm in the Middle. :)

It's not a bad movie, I was quite impressed. A bit slow in places, but generally good. A different take on the character, which was refreshing. Not brilliant, but more than adequate over all.

Yeah, it's a complete reboot of the franchise, after Joel Schumacher ruined it all, mind you even Batman 1 and 2 were hardly anything like the comics, just hoping the costumes been updated enough to allow for abit of movement, rather than keep with the stiff neck syndrome :D
