Wait, what? Bad japanese dubs?! There's never been a bad japansese dubs! Thats impossible! You mean English dubbing! English dubbing is bad! They are evil! They only care about money, not the show itself like the Japanese.

Ok, come on ppl, not every japanese dubs are great. I know thats hard to believe but there's must been one anime/Cartoon show you thought the dubs did better then the japanese ones.

Even though I don't like the show that much, but personally the dubbing for Lucky Star was better then the Japanese one for me. I can get the jokes and Patricia voice wasn't that painful like the japanese one (Sorry, Patricia voice is way to soft for me. Even with the english dub!)

I also seen the Japanese dubbing of Batman:TAS. The Japanese dub of Joker didn't felt right to me. Didn't have the "Joker" feel like Mark Hamill did.

I thought it was "common knowledge" that foreign dubs of US shows always suck? (Not that it's necessarily true...) Is there really some conceit that all Japanese dubbing is good?

Common knowledge? That sounRAB more like being judgemental.

I just rarly hear fans saying "The English dubs was better then the japanese one". I'm not hating on japanese dubs at all, but it seem unfair to see ppl bash on the english dubs and not leave any comment on the Japanese dubs at all. I know there are bad english dubbing, but that doesn't mean the Japanese dubbing are always good. I can name some dubbing that was much better then what the Japanese dub did in the anime.

Heck, I think Sonny Strait plays a better voice then Mayumi Tanaka for Krillin.

I saw some of the Get Backers anime once - watched it dubbed initially and found it pretty bad. When we switched to the Japanese track... it was much much worse. Hilariously worse, in fact.

Maybe it is. I don't necessarily agree. I have heard a nuraber of really bad foreign dubs, though. I've also heard a few voices and performances that could rival the original English. The poor quality of foreign dubs is still a common sentiment, last I knew.

Perhaps because most English fans don't live in Japan. The quality of Japanese dubs isn't particularly relevant to them.

I can name some Japanese voice work bad enough that I wouldn't want to bother with a local dub, but that's another matter.

Beast Wars. Gender change. Change in tone of show. Yeah.

The Persona games. (*collective gasp*) Yes. I said it. The acting is collectively subpar, with the occasional standout (i.e. Hikaru Midorikawa).

I'd say Dissidia: Final Fantasy (the English track isn't out yet), too for the same reason (Chaos, Kefka, Kuja, and Golbez being standouts with Cecil and Tidus exceeding themselves, but everyone else was either decent, generic, or huh?). Though, the writing is more at fault, honestly.

That Batman dub wasn't bad, though. It's different. But, not bad.

I'm not saying its bad, but the voice actor for the Joker doesn't have the feel like Mark Hamill. Maybe if I see more of the Japanese Joker, I might take it. But I'm not saying it was bad at all. Though, no voice actor can beat Mark Hamill laugh.

And yeah, I did heard the Japanese Beast Wars did change the ton of it, unlike the U.S. Can you find any clip of it?

Wow...that opening post is one of the most blatant pieces of flamebait I've seen in a long while. Congratulations.

Anyway, like others have said - the idea that foreign dubs of American shows are usually bad is one that's pretty much accepted by everyone. You're not going to find too many people arguring against you on that one.

I guess even the Japanese have a sense of that because every network that airs a foreign program allows you - via a button on your TV's remote - to switch between the Japanese dub and the original audio track at will. So the choice to not put up with a crappy dub is there.

What's also hilarious is that in the Japanese dub of Dora the Explorer, the titular character teaches the audience English, not Spanish.

Dora teaches Englsih in every other dub of the show, no one else wants to learn Spanish.

The problem is a dub of Japanese cartoon is likely the only way its going to make it on the air in the US and even now, that is less of issue considering there is hardly any anime is shown on US cable anymore. CN shows more Canadian shows then Japanese ones nowadays, where dubbing is not a issue. Considering anime is less of marketable product nowadays it seems like you be lucky to see it the US airwaves, let alone in see it in Japanese. Plus it gives you something to sell with the DVD if you put in the Japanese audio track.

Besides wasn't the Japanese dub of PPG decent?

Man, if I knew sooner ppl were going to get all up tight with this topic, I shouldn't made it in the first place. I'm not hating on the Japanese dubs “AT ALL” (There are some japanese I like better then the English one), I just thought some fans might say “Well, even though I'm a hard-core anime fan, and I like subs the most...But this dub in this anime did a little better job then the original.”

But since
dubbing = Bad
Subs = Good
Whats the point?

I see you have a since of humor...

Not that, it just seems no anime fan don't want to say nothing bad about the japanese dubs. And or don't want to see anyone talking back to the japanese dubs. But when it comes to english or any other language, “Yes! Yes! They are bad, really bad! Evil even! Only money! Not the japanese! They care! They got skills! But the others, no! Bad-Bad-Bad! True Fan!”

I'm not saying “Let's talk sh** about the japanese dubs and rip them a new one!!!!” I'm saying “Since a lot of anime fans can see the floss off from the dubs, how about the original score? I bet some dubs did a bit better then the original!”
But once I say that, no one wants to answer.

“Bad japanese dubs!? Impossible! They are pure good! Music even! They don't do bad dubs, they do good.”

Is like no one can say anything bad to something they like/love. Is like a sin. Is like an anime law you can't say bad things, only kiss-up things.

Me, I can. I do love Dragonball, but I can easily nit-pick the series down-side in it. But I still love Dragonball.

I just know they're some dubbing that did better then the original dubs. Some other voice actor (Other then Japan) have some decent skills to show!

I just want to see if any fan (Or other worRAB “True Fan”) can go at that level and say something bad to something they love. If fans can easily talk crap about the dubs, they can easily talk crap about the subs (Original). It won't hurt you or the anime. It's Criticizing!!

I'm not tell you to go out and bash it like many anime fans does to the dubbing, but to leave a feedback what you think.

Like I said, “I'M NOT HATING ON THE JAPANESE DUBS”. But I'm also not going to kiss-up to every japanese dubs I see. If I don't like it, then I go to the dubs, if I don't like the dubs, I read the manga, if I don't like the manga....Well, I'll choose another series and redo the thing again.

of course it's possible. Thinking that every Japanese dub is great is the same as saying every movie has great acting. There is good acting and bad acting even in the original versions. it's that simple.

I don't know, it sounded more like he was insulting people people who think that ALL English dubs are terrible and ALL Japanese dubs, anime or otherwise, are flawless. It's a bit of a difference.

But on topic, there's some bad acting going on in Powerpuff Girls Z, specifically Mojo and Poncho the Amoeba Boy (and I actually LIKED Brain Drummond playing him in the dub).

Really. This isn't the right way to do this discussion. First of all, either focus on just Japanese shows or just other country's shows dubbed into Japanese, because I think everyone here agrees those are two different scenarios. Just discussing cases where the English dub is better than the Japanese dub or cases of bad Japanese voice acting would make a good discussion; using said discussion as a way to insult other anime fans just seems petty and rude.

Same goes for Anime fans that like other dubs then the japanese is rude too.

So it's ok to criticizes other dubs work and bash it like it's no tomorrow and leave the original clean?

It's criticising! It's no different how many fans does it like the dubs. Just because it's the original japanese dubs, doesn't mean it will all ways be good. The japanese are human to you know, they do make mistakes too.

Is it hard to see if something better then the original? And why does it have to be english dub? They're many dubs can be better then the original!

Heck, I like the Death Note dubs. And I think it's better then the original!

Am I saying the japanese doesn't have any skills? No. It's an opinion I'm giving out as a fan of what I think is Decent/Good.

I think Goku's english voices are way better than the Japanese voice. I know I'm in the minority but that's just my opinion.
