Back To The Future Bluray

From the RAB main page, BTTF is being re-released to the cinema to coincide with the Blu-ray.

I have to ask - why? If you want to watch BTTF just go through the Sky+ planner, they repeat it every other day!

HDTV was nothing in 2000 - certainly not in the UK .
And the idea of HD broadcasts or on disc was nothing but a fantasy years in the future - which is exactly what it turned out to be.

The unpopularity of the tins was nothing to do with what was inside them.

I will reserve judgment on whether they're tat or not until I see some pics of them. It all depenRAB I suppose on are they gonna be full size or just big enough to fit inside the normal sized tin cases.
I aslo wonder which version of the Sports Almanac we will get, will it be the Almanac that's bought from the shop or the Almanac cover with Ooh! La La inside:D
I've placed my order for now so will wait to see some picks before I decide to cancel it or not.

The uk is a small place;)
Hd broadcasts started in the us in the late 90s, first on pbs stations, then spreading to the rest, it is like the iphone, not everyone has one, in fact only a minority do even now, but you can't claim to not have heard of such smart phones. So you can see what is coming long before it is truly wide spread.

It wasn't a fantasy, it was quite clear at the time for anyone following tech, the progression was clear, it was just a matter of how fast the prices would drop on flat panel technology. Everything seems far off at the time, but this didn't seem that far off. By the time dvd really went main stream that was at least 5 years into dvRAB existence, and by that time, hdtv was well on its way, and as such dvRAB inevitable obsolescence was clear. The goal of videophiles was to reproduce the look of film, and early on it was clear dvd and sdtv would never be up to the task, so dvd would have never been seen as the optimal "collector" media format. There would always be a future where it would be replaced with something closer to film, and hdtv was the answer, and only a few years off. Even if you didn't have a hdtv in 2000 you saw them at electronics stores, and before that they had them on exhibit at places like museums in washington dc, the signs were there that it could be so much better...and so dvd was only a stop-gap at the end of the sdtv era. Also there was legislation for the transition to hdtv in law in the us..there was a time table..which slipped a bit, but it was another inevitable count down to death of sdtv for all to see. Dvd wasn't competing with a hypothetical that didn't exist, hdtv standarRAB existed, and the products were coming into the market, the broadcasts were coming online, it was clear it wasn't going to last.

Well I've never watched it on the big screen (was too young when it was released) .Given that its my fave film, I'd love to go and watch it in the cinema.

While I do like the sequels, especially part 3, they really did lose something with Crispin Glover not appearing. He brought a certain edge to the first film that made it that much more special. He obviously would have played Seamus McFly in part 3 and that would have made all of those scenes a lot more meaningful than Michael J Fox playing across from himself with a fake beard on! I'm not sure whether Crispin leaving/being fired from the films was the reason they had Biff kill George in the alt-1985 universe or if they already had that as the storyline.

It's not a surprise that Crispin didn't appear on the DVD extras but he must be back frienRAB with Robert Zemeckis seeing as he was in Beowulf (as Grendel). I would love to see him back onscreen in a live action Zemeckis movie.

I'd watch it at the cinema.

Saw Star Wars at the cinema when it was re-released and it's a completely different experience from watching it at home on your TV.

Have been searching for info on this. Can't find nothing.

EDIT: A bit more searching. Think I've cracked it. The following links are supposedly what the DeLorean Edition will look like.

I would love to go se BTTT at the cinema. All I need to do is to convince the wife it's a good idea as we already have the DVRAB and will have the Blu Rays on order.

Let's hope they release the proper transfers not the f*ck up they released on the DVD boxset a few years back where they'd letterboxed a 4:3 cutout rather than the original 35mm frame in a couple of scenes in BTTF2. Chopped a good part of the scene out!

I think the DeLorean thing looks a bit cheap and nasty. I'm sticking with the tin.

(By the way, you can get full size 'outtatime' plates at Universal Studios.)

In case anyones interested, Play.com have pics of what's inside the Collectors Tin.
Looks pretty good to me.
The Delorean edition looks to be the same set, but with the addition of the Delorean that's already been posted.

haha! that was interesting!! I love the Demark translation of the Back to The Future logo!! i love looking at international realises! their version of the Alien anthology looks nicely packaged as well.
