Back To The Future Bluray

For most I would assume that they've pre-ordered the Limited Collectors Tin which for obvious reasons would warrant a pre-order.
Not so much with this release, but it has been known for the likes of Play.com to have a special pre-order price for a limited time which is another good reason to do so.

Naw, they were practical effects and shot within the limitations of their time, and were cutting edge peak of practical effects. As such it ages more gracefully than early cg effecs do which just look dodgy. At the very least whats on screen is always real so the lighting/shadow is always realistic etc. Its just more mentally acceptable, even when you see the crystal clear bad rubber masks on star trek the original series in hd you go with it more than you would if it were horrifically bad cg.

Do you mean "physical effects"?
Not heard of practical effects before.

I'm guessing you mean they are not CGI and that they were done for real on the set .
Many were but not all . It was very early days for CGI so there's not much use of that but like you I don't think HD will be a problem at all for the films.

BTW- there are very few crystal clear bad rubber masks in Star Trek TOS - maybe you are thinking of Lost In Space.

The prosthetics in TNG are worse than TOS

I was thinking of the scenes in BTTF2 when Marty goes back to his parents' school prom that he was at in BTTF, and there's what looks like some rather grotty old style rear projection type techniques used to show two Martys in the same frame.

personally not too worried how good/bad it will look in HD, though, i am sure it will look great.

what has excited me about this release, is the interviews with cast and crew and the making of docos.

also - i never owned BTTF on DVD (was always waiting for a better "special edition" version which never came),
and i actually havent seen the films for years.
cant wait :D

There is no need for "parts", Doc and Marty simply need fuel. Fuel is drained from vehicles prior to long term storage (70 years being a particularly long time).

So, why don't Doc and Marty use the fuel in the Delorean in the mine? Because there isn't any to use.

Sports Statistics 1950-2000.
If you've watched the film, what was you expecting to be in it?

Fair enough.

I'm one of those mugs (read: impatient) who'll pay a few quid more to be able to walk into HMV on release day and get my grubby hanRAB on a copy before lunchtime...

Can't recall those scenes although IIRC it would have been bluescreen rather than old fashioned back projection which has looked crap from day one .

Green/blue screen does often too which is why I think they use it rarely .

It may even have been a composite image from 2 separate pieces of film as that looks much better.

The technology of the day can let things down a bit on Bluray- look at Harryhausen stuff like Jason and the Argonauts -but you just need to try harder to suspend your disbelief and enjoy the film

A big part is that we've known dvd was obsolete for quite a few years now, it was the last sd format. So yes, any tins would lose their value quick for that reason alone.

It's a timeloop, 2 Marty's occupying the same point in time forever/ Except it had to happen for a first time which is the paradox.

I'm assuming you mean the bit about the scene at Twin Pines Mall. When we see Marty go to 1955 for the first time, the Mall is called Twin Pines. But of course, he alters history by taking out one of the Farmers' Pine Trees. So by the time he gets back to the Mall at the end of the film, the Mall has become Lone Pine Mall. But get this... Marty sees himself going back in the Delorean to start the adventure all over again. The Mall has clearly changed name from Twin Pines to Lone Pine. Which is it for that Marty? Lone or Twin? Does our Marty still have any memory of Twin Pine? Does second Marty still think it's Twin Pine? Does 1985 Doc have any concept that the Mall was Twin Pine? How can it even be so since we're seeing the same point in time again. It's already happened, and it;s about to happen again.

Confusing stuff. Never mess with time. :D
