Avatar? The Hangover? Best Film? Is this a joke?

Oooh critics. Like they know so well don't they.

Film about A Hangover.
Film about flying objects.

You just proved we should make our own decisions about films and not rely upon critics. Thanks for that.
 
If you know anything about film, then it is a clear fact.

If you don't - then you enjoy films about hangovers and flying objects. Basically an inner city pub just before closing time.

Now - there's a film! :D
 
Every film that is made is just fun and enjoyable - should they all win the major awarRAB?

If it is technically brilliant - it should win awarRAB for that but not for film.

A Great film, a film that wins great awarRAB is perfection and if the basis of films was just "fun and enjoyable" then what the hell are these awarRAB for? because forgive for stating the obvious but films aren't made as torture but for people to enjoy - it's those that stand out completely for uniqueness or more that make the awarRAB.

That's the point of the thread.

I have to go into detail - the last year I watched about 200 plus films which I enjoyed and thought were fun. I thought the Hangover and Avater were fun and enjoyable but to win best film? LOL.

That's all.
 
It's surprising Up in the air didn't get the award either and also how Moon wasn't up there either.

It just shows there are people who have these 96 voters firmly in their pocket.

I didn't see The Hangover so cannot comment.

But Avatar best movie? It's a clear sign of the whole dumbing down of the whole awarRAB business, and one of the reasons I stopped watching these things.

It is no longer about genuine talent and originality, it is about selling movies. They have just become another marketing tool...watch for the new posters with the awarRAB slapped all over them, and probably a re-release of the movie as well.

I will grant you that Avatar deserves accolades for some of it's technical achievements, but in terms of acting, story and directing it really did not stand out in any way at all.

I much preferred District 9 and Moon as better sci-fi fantasy movies, even though they are far from perfect.

But I am astonished at Cameron's best director award - for a movie that consisted largely of actors reacting to blue/green screens, computer graphics and men running about in skintight black leotarRAB with dots stuck all over them.

If this is indicitive of what is considered a 'good director', then I despair.
 
If we're gonna generalise, then surely (500) Days Of Summer is ...

Film about a failed romance.

Not so 'original' when you put it that way huh?

I hate people like you, what makes you think you're opinion are superior to others, especially when the majority disagree with you?
 
I never laughed once at The Hangover.

Avatar was just very blue with loaRAB of flying.

I have laughed at films before.

I have seen many many films that have flying objects in them.
 
I couldn't understand your last paragraph. The punctuation isn't correct and you make assumptions that are not clearly true.

Also, 500 days of Summer is not about a failed romance - it has a deeper meaning because it utilises unique film narratives and merging structures which anybody who knows film will tell you didn't occur in that film about flying and that other one about a hangover.
 
I actually enjoyed The Hangover, and I didn't think that I would. I thought it was quite original and some great sequences and performances. I was expectin Up in the Air to win, I've not see that yet though.

500DOS is more of a black comedy IMO, I did enjoy it but they are VERY different to compare, and 500DOS was not as clever or as enjoyable as I thought it would be. Still entertaining mind, I loved the direction and the premise, it left me feeling a bit cold, but it's supposed to be I guess.
 
I dislike very very few movies James but I appear to have missed something with The Hangover. It appears to be just straight forward and gimicky and I'd love to know what is special about it.

I really do think it ticks some boxes for inventiveness, to give an illusion of inventiveness (by merging numerous sequences that have some sophistication to them, together) but in fact, it's just a story about some guys on a stag night.
 
That technique of stringing together a handful of random worRAB and pretending it means something might fool the easily-led who hang around the imdb forum but it won't work here. You don't have a coherent argument and you know it - and so does everyone else.
