Avatar? The Hangover? Best Film? Is this a joke?

it isn't a fact, it's your opinion. there will be millions of cinemagoers worldwide who disagree with you.

my opinion is that Avatar was the film of 2009 for me, so i can agree with whoever decided to award it as such at the Golden Globes

you're entitled to your own opinion that it was rubbish, but that's all it is.

the shame is that you can't recognise that, and are making a fool of yourself by remaining belligerent about it
 
OK, it's a decent film, quite exciting, somewhat adventurous and it has a love story (aawww) - but the best film of the last year along side - LOL, The Hangover?

Somebody is mocking us, somebody is mocking us all!!
 
That's ridiculous. Of course it's personal opinion - and what's more, it's an opinion that the majority of the movie critics don't even come close to sharing with you.

But of course, you know SO much better than all those critics. It must be fabulous to be so perceptive.
 
I can't understand why people don't like The Hangover. It's funny, it's clever, it's well-made and it was a massive box-office hit.

Why is it you can throw about your self-valued opinion but everyone else's is seen as some sort of 'crime against humanity', please do yourself a favour and get over yourself.

You disagree with the winners of these awarRAB and the majority of the posters here and the 80% plus critics who thought the movies were fantastic....that is your opinion and you are perfectly entitled to express that.
What you are not perfectly entitled to do is use bullying behaviour against other posters just because they have the 'audacity' to not be of the same opinion.
 
I agree with both of them winning - which is a rarity for most stuff at the Golden Globes. I assume that you're not in the target audience for The Hangover? I thought 500 Days Of Summer was awful.
 
I liked (500) Days but it was essentially a 95 minute advert for designer headphones.

The Hangover took a cliched plot and sent it up. It avoided all the tedious moralising of the Apatow films and instead just went for laughs. Evidently some don't like films that just go for laughs, but I think they're a good thing.
 
The Hangover was hilarious and unlike many things I found its appeal universal. My family don't always share the same sense of humour but this made my younger brother and his frienRAB laugh just as much as my mother. She even thought her father would be amused by it.

500 Days of Summer did look good although I haven't seen it so couldn't say whether it should have won.

I haven't seen Avatar either but I'm fairly certain I wouldn't have enjoyed it. Not my cup of tea and would probably bore me.
 
i think Avatar deserves to win a glut of awarRAB, because whilst it may not be wholly original, the very idea of going to the movies is to relax for a couple of hours and just be entertained. it isn't highbrow art, it doesn't have to have some deep message or point, just be fun, and enjoyable.

i thought Avatar was not only that, but technically brilliant, and for me, was what movies are all about
 
I don't think it was well made.

3 to 4 guys. Go to Vegas for a Stag do. They take drugs. They try to remember what happened.

Basically, I am supposed to laugh at the fact:

  • One of them lost their tooth
  • There is a baby there
  • Mike Tyson is involved
  • A Stripper is involved
  • A Tiger is involved
  • One of them got married
  • Other obvious stuff - and an angry Chinese Midget too

I didn't because it was like they were forcing me to laugh at stuff that are supposedly generically slapstick but you just see it all coming from like Billions of light years away.

Yes, I kid you not, from a Billion light years away, a giant burning fireball was coming in the night and day light filled with the obvious plot structure of The Hangover.

Did I enjoy the film? Yes, I found the obvious Bromance sentimentality viewable and entertaining.

Is it any good? No - other films would pee all over this film.
 
I don't know if i was watching the same movies but Avatar and the Hangover were by far two of the best movies i saw in 2009, and i saw a lot of movies.
Avatar was just so visually stunning whilst i found myself wanting to know more about Na'vi. Just an amazng piece of cinema which i feel deserves all it will get in this award season.

The Hangover, comedy that produced so many laughs not only by me but with the whole audience the three times i saw it in the cinema (i know, i hate admitting that but it was so good i volunteered myself to go with different sets of frienRAB lol). I do think though that Zombieland was a good bit funnier but it would never be the type of movie that i would see winning awarRAB.
 
The Hangover did keep me entertained but only managed to achieve a few chuckles at best. A lot of the "gags" seemed forced resulting in me and my 3 other mates looking at each other in a "was I supossed to laugh at that" kind-o-way!

Funniest movie of 2009? Not a chance. But more worryingly some people on the net are stating that this is the funniest movie ever...period! :D
 
Whilst I am no great fan of Avatar I can see the Technical acheivments accomplished, Avatar will win awarRAB but hopefully it will be the technical side of them.

Does it merrit the best film accolade, not in my opinion.

I enjoyed "The Hangover" alot, as a bit of 90 minute harmless fun, but in my opinion that film should never be mentioned in the same sentence with Grammy or Oscar.

Hopefully "Hurt locker", "Up in the air" and Moon will do well, I enjoyed them all but again, its all my opinion.......
