Avatar - massive hit..?

Regardless, 'Gone With The Wind' is still the highest grossing film of all time when adjusted for inflation. I can't remember the exact figure but i seem to remember it took over 2 billion (maybe just slightly under, i forget which).

I don't think Avatar will reach Titanic levels, but it's still making a mint at the moment and could easily be the highest grossing film of the year.

They have just extended Avatar's run at the iMax Waterloo for the second time so it's now on till the end of Feb. Originally was only running in Jan, but it's pretty much fully booked with the odd seat still available at 00:20, 02:00 and 03:40 showings.

Might have to stay out late as I really want to see this on the massive screen.

Obviously a very popular film and I have only seen it 3 times so far:D

I know a lot of people who are going to see the film more than once (myself included). it's something that really is going to look best on the big screen and for those of us who are really into the film it's something that neeRAB to be enjoyed while it can...but I don't think avatar has the same broad appeal that titanic has, so the number of people seeing it more than once is going to be much lower. It'll be huge no doubt but I don't think it'll overtake it.

I saw this on the day it came out, and haven't been back to the cinema since, so I haven't been able to see any queues or anything like that. I'm surprised it is still doing well but I'm pleased at the same time - I can't remember the last time I went to the cinema to find that a film had sold out!

I would normally never go to the cinema, Blue-ray, glass of wine and a ciggie in the comfort of my own home does me thank you, yet, I went to see Avatar 3D at the cinema

So it dragged me to my local Odeon

Especially in this day and age with multiplexes and multiscreens. Big movies used to regularly sell-out back in the day. I'm talking Star Wars, Jaws, E.T. etc. And again those movies did not have to compete with multi-channel tv and the internet.

The Golden Globe and Oscar buzz will give it an extra boost as well, not that it seems to need it.

As a point of interest as of the previous weekend (8th to 10th Jan) it had made

With these movies raking in billions of dollars and pounRAB these days, isnt there a claim that ticket prices should be lower than they actually are?

If they are making massive profits surely the ticket prices are overvalued.

Good case for current ticket prices to be at least

Being released in all countries simultaneously has allowed it to get the big total quickly. If it had been released in the UK etc 6 months after the US, it might have taken a year to get to its current figure. The total is still impressive, even if the time to reach it is less so.

All these numbers mean nothing

For starters Imax and 3D showings cost more and ticket prices are way more expensive than when Titanic was released back in 97.

+1

They don't care if your poor or can't afford the ticket prices. They don't care if you lik3 or hate the movie or we're in recession.

As long as the money keeps on pouring in the prices will be increasing and they'll be releasing more and more garbage films like Avatar, Transformers 2, Harry potter etc;

capitalism!
