I totally had that same feeling.
I'd still watch it tho' if their came a sequel.
And I think Cameron would handle it with real care.

I found mine here:
Stony Places

Yes. I was all teary eyed during that one.
and of course when the tree fell down. I just wanted the drama to end in that moment. :bawl:

JAKE.

Being a big fan of the film I have a difficult time understanding the other side. I mean the look that was given at the Golden Globes- WTF?!

Yes the storyline is cliche but it's done on a level that goes beyond the norm. It reaches out to captivate those feelings that cannot be put into words. It draws you in to the point where you feel like you have to choose sides. It makes you think. Add all of that up with how well it was cinematically and with such incredible effects and you're gonna have one heck of a movie that others just have not reached.

If they don't win at the Oscars for best director or best picture, so what at least we made it to the Golden Globes so we should celebrate this victory however small. Aside from the box office hits this is a huge honor just as good as an Oscar. At least in my book anways :)

I can't believe it. The 3D is a huge part of what makes this movie so amazing. I've also seen bits and pieces in 2D and it doesn't do it justice, which makes me wonder what direction they will go for the DVD release. I can't imagine watching this movie again without the spectacular views that 3D provided.

I think someone mentioned that there are discussions for an extended version to be released around November - no confirmation though. Like we suspected, Cameron and company are going to milk this for every penny. See below:

Re-release or sequel in the works for 'Avatar'?

Now I thought Avatar was amazing, but there is no way I'd pay $12-$15 (for IMAX-3D) to see a measley 10 extra minutes of cut footage from the original movie. If they do this, they really are trying to milk the movie for every penny.

Hands down, this movie is awesome. Man, I hope they will not make us wait very long for the sequel.

I don't know if I'd want a sequel. This film is so unique and it's been such a long time in the making, it feels really special and exciting and new in its own way...I think a sequel would just be cashing in on the success of the first one. I love its originality, I don't want something else to try and overshadow or match it, y'know? Maybe that's just me, but yeah.

Also, I TOTALLY want an Avatar icon, but I don't know where to find any! :bawl:

And beautiful cap! I loved that moment in the film, it's probably one of my favourites

Thanks for the links, I'll definitely have to check out icons

Eeeexactly. Everything was tied up quite nicely and there were no loose ends, it was a great ending. Leave it alone, I say no to sequels!

I had someone come up to me at work the other day and ask me whether or not they should bother with the film in 3D (I work in a cinema), because someone told them it was crap  I couldn't believe it! Considering the technology that was invented purely for this film, and the fact it was MADE for 3D, that just blows my mind. I think sometimes people miss the point of 3D, and don't realise that it's for more than just things popping out at your face (which can also be fun, to be fair). But to me, it was more about the massive amount of detail in Pandora, the depth perception and how immersed you could become in this world, how real it felt. I don't think it would have quite the same effect in 2D - well, I've seen bits of it in 2D on my breaks, and it's definitely not the same.

I understand what you're saying, however I was kind of looking at it as in today's world there are more people that have more heart and soul and would never allow something like this to happen and wouldn't agree to something like this.

Where as they made it as years from now we will be more heartless and not care about other people and actually let things like that happen.

If something like that tried to happen right now there would be more people ready to stop it then progress it. There were what, 5 people in this film that had a heart and were stopping what was happening and helping the Navi.

That's kind of where I was coming from. I know it was necessary for there to be more people under the power of greed and money in order for the plot to go on.

Indeed it does.

Well hopefully it won't be under the Special Features - Deleted scenes menu on the DVD. I want the extended scene incorporated into the DVD cut darn it.

Hollywood isn't out to spite James Cameron. If it doesn't win-- and chances are good it won't-- it's because it wasn't the best picture in the eyes of the committee. I don't think the story or characters alone would have brought people out to see the movie multiple times, it's almost entirely for the technical aspects. A more well-rounded movie should win Best Picture.

Yeah I noticed a few pissed off looks when AVATAR was announced as the winner. It's Titanic all over again.

Like I said on another thread, Avatar is the epitome of what cinema strives to do - inspire, engage and entertain. Based on the ticket sales and the overwhelming response to the movie on blogs etc., I'd say its done just that.

Will it win at the Oscars? I'm doubtful. It will certainly win many technical awards, but Best Movie/Director. I don't think Hollywood will give Cameron the satisfication. Though I will be pleasantly surprised if they do.

'Avatar' to be released on Earth Day (April 22nd)

What a drag that there won't be any special features :(

I was so looking forward to the behind the scenes stuff. Maybe Cameron will come out with a 10th anniversary edition in the future like he did with Titanic. Still though.

I can only hope that the deleted scenes will be apart of the film.

I saw it last night it was really good! =D I saw it in normal format! Great visuals & good storyline too!

What part did you find dragging?
I thought it was awesome also with the length.
I was having a good time maybe also because of the people I went with...dunno.

Jake is such a cutie pie.

didn't you all want an avatar of your own when you saw the movie?

I'll start the request thread tonight then. :)

Well the upside of a 4 year wait is that Cameron may shoot Avatar 2 and 3 at the same time. Therefore there won't be much waiting time between the release of 2 and 3.
