...they bite, kick and scratch? I say to them, “Don’t you want to be smart and to know stuff so that way you can help humanity progress instead of being a burden to humanity? Aren’t you sick of being dead-weight, useless baggage and a waste of energy?” but they react badly when I say things like that even though it is the truth. It’s like they don’t want to be educated or something; it’s like they want to remain ignorant and misinformed…do you think so?

I'm going to reasonably assume that you're talking about fundies and not theists in general. There's a major difference.
As Bear pointed out, just stating that God does not exist is in no way intelligent. I do not believe in a god, but I can back up my nonbelief with facts (note: I'm not implying that atheism IS fact. Facts just influence my personal beliefs.)
