I am an atheist and a godparent. My godchildrens' parents have no interest in religion and so their spiritual education is up to me.
Now the children are old enough to start asking questions. They had some questions about Jesus. I have told them that the only reference to Jesus outside the Bible was pencilled into historal records a few hundred years later and left them to make their own mind's up. But what else should I tell them?
They are aged between 7-12.
In case you were wondering: I told the parents I didn't believe in God or Jesus - they said it didn't matter because they're Church of England.
