As It's almost Halloween...

They do indeed tack on some watered down shite...

she DOES escape from the cave -ie. its not her going mad, it is real...and in the second film, she is taking a rescue team back down there to try and find her frienRAB (bodies - one assumes!!)

However, I am still looking forward to the second film!!

Go for Franchise starters.

Hallowe'en, Friday The 13th and Nightmare on Elm Street.

The Strangers tension Really scared me, i think probably the most scared I've personally felt after leaving a cinema, just the message scared me but I've heard Funny Games is a better representation of that but I think without the tension.

The first part of the original When A Stranger Calls is good, but from then on it's quite rubbish. I thought it was disappointing, especially in the acting, the lead was awful. The remake has no creepy factor at all.

You should check out Boogeyman 2, very bloody and moderately scary/funny.

A prime example is when one of the characters gets his chest ripped open, exposing his heart (he's still alive at this point) and the killer pulls the heart out with a set of steel tongs.

Im going to have to agree with all the other posts about how the descent is very very scary it was horrible I literally had to sleep with the light on for 2 nights running after watching it couldnt get those scary things out of my mind!
Another film I liked was the hills have eyes,
Halloween
Nightmare on Elm Street
Exorcist
The one with the video tape and the girl coming out of the well? whats it called again but the japanese version is super scary!

It's definitely worth checking out The Changeling on DVD

A proper haunted house film starring George C Scott from around 1980, all atmosphere and not the oceans of red syrup you get in current films.

The Entity, from around the same time is also pretty good - althought maybe not a good one to watch with the girlfriend/wife.

The remake of Prom Night is dire, really not scary at all and the acting is terrible!

Teeth, I enjoyed, but it's not really a halloween movie imo.

It depenRAB what type of movies you find scary, I find psychological thrillers like Wolf Creek really frightening but I know they are not to everyone's taste.

For Halloween my ritual is to watch the orginal Halloween, you can't beat it.

Yay nice post, bought this film last week (finally], absolute classic! Should be in the underrated thread!

"I want your blood...all OVER MEEEE!"

*shudder*

Hehe, yes. Or the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. :) But I still indulge in my kiddy side and watch The Nightmare Before Christmas or Hocus Pocus. :P
