Are you for a Constitutional Amendment banning burning the flag?

you do reralise that witht he differnt reatification processes in different states, only 4 percent of the population can thorw the whole thing in the garbage, right?

No amendment has EVER passed the states with less than 80% approval rating prior to its introduction.

The one and only reason a flag should ever be burned is to destroy old worn out flags. And, there is a proper procedure for doing so. The Boy Scouts in my area collect old flags every year from the community and destroy them properly with a ceremony. That said, this Johnny Cash song sums the issue up nicely for me.....

Ragged Old Flag

I walked through a county courthouse square,
On a park bench an old man was sitting there.
I said, "Your old courthouse is kinda run down."
He said, "Naw, it'll do for our little town."
I said, "Your old flagpole has leaned a little bit,
And that's a Ragged Old Flag you got hanging on it."

He said, "Have a seat," and I sat down.
"Is this the first time you've been to our little town?"
I said, "I think it is." He said, "I don't like to brag,
But we're kinda proud of that Ragged Old Flag.

"You see, we got a little hole in that flag there when
Washington took it across the Delaware.
And it got powder-burned the night Francis Scott Key
Sat watching it writing Say Can You See.
And it got a bad rip in New Orleans
With Packingham and Jackson tuggin' at its seems.

"And it almost fell at the Alamo
Beside the Texas flag, but she waved on though.
She got cut with a sword at Chancellorsville
And she got cut again at Shiloh Hill.
There was Robert E. Lee, Beauregard, and Bragg,
And the south wind blew hard on that Ragged Old Flag.

"On Flanders Field in World War I
She got a big hole from a Bertha gun.
She turned blood red in World War II.
She hung limp and low by the time it was through.
She was in Korea and Vietnam.
She went where she was sent by her Uncle Sam.

"She waved from our ships upon the briny foam,
And now they've about quit waving her back here at home.
In her own good land here she's been abused --
She's been burned, dishonored, denied, and refused.

"And the government for which she stanRAB
Is scandalized throughout the land.
And she's getting threadbare and wearing thin,
But she's in good shape for the shape she's in.
'Cause she's been through the fire before
And I believe she can take a whole lot more.

"So we raise her up every morning, take her
down every night.
We don't let her touch the ground and we fold
her up right.
On second thought, I do like to brag,
'Cause I'm mighty proud of the Ragged Old Flag."

You assumed that I was against flag burning. I have no problem with someone burning the flag, but excuse me if I cheer for the person beating the Hell out of the person for doing so. I'm just exercising my First Amendment Rights as well. :)

Do it my way and you won't have to worry about me perpetrating violence against you for disagreement.

And you say you aren't facist....
Really, Sadam would be proud.

Can we say side step the question. I will restate the question Enlighten me then. Are you placing the flag above the country? Is it your GOD? Did you save the flag in some drunken skirmish? Are you telling me that you actually would die for a piece of cloth and rather than your country. Please I really want to know.

You are right about one thing I don't have a clue about blind devotion to an object, wether it be book, flag, or paper.

I would personally never burn the flag that I would consider that disrespectful, but that doesn't mean I want to stop someone from burning it if that is what they believe in. IT is not my choice to choose morals for someone else.

OK I can live with that...........I just think that what a person does after they get out of the military really has nothing to do with what they did when they were in the military........

I thank you guys for your support but realistically I honestly don't believe I have more right to speak then anyone else..........I just feel that to the military and veterans who have fought to defend the flag it is a much more volatile issue then it is to some guy who has worked and 8 to 4 job his or her life and know nothing about the military but they are quick to take advantage of the right that our military gives them............

Boy are we getting off topic but let me say this.........The men and women who served in nam were just doing their jobs........Liberal like LBJ and Mcnamera ran the war............They would not let the military do their job..........Some would say we won every battle and lost the war......

To have what happen to Viet Nam vets on their return from Nam because of the likes of "Hanoi Jane" Fonda and John "The Traitor" Kerry is outrageous...

Upon return from a 10 month deployment to Viet Nam aboard the USS SACRAMENTO (AOE-1) the captain called the crew to a all hanRAB meeting on the fantail before we entered port in Bremerton and told us we would not be able to wear our uniforms off base because of left wing protestors standing outside the gate expressing their first amendment rights to spit on and curse military guys leaving the base........True Vietnam vets will never forget that treatment as long as we live............

And the biggest tragedy is because of a few liberals in charge 58,000 brave men and women died for nothing...........

Right. Anyone who does not tow the Republican party line is a communist now.

"What? You don't support the Patriot Act? How dare you advocate for the nationalization of the means of production!"

I had one left wing whacko come up to the side of my truck when I was waiting at the gate to go into the base at Pearl harbor and call me a baby killer........I asked him to step in front of my truck and say that but being the coward he was he refused.......I would have love to get his attention......... :)

You forget that yet another group opposes the flag-burning amendment - the libertarians. And I'm damned sure that they aren't mixed in with the Socialists and Communists.

You defened the country not the flag. There is a difference and you know it the flag is just a piece of cloth get over it. Funny how you ignor my other points yet pick up on my cloth statements. Denile is not just a river in egypt.
