...recognize it? My future wife and I will spend most of our lives traveling through many different countries and cultures on humanitarian work. We would like to each tattoo our bands; however, we are afraid that not every culture will recognize that, or even wedding bands as a sign of marriage.
 
Yes, there are cultures that wouldn't know what the hell you were talking about if you said "wedding ring". But most cultures do recognize commitment to one person and have their own kinds of ceremonies. What matters is what it means to the two of you.

Get them tattooed because its a sign of love, commitment and marriage TO YOU

And unless your going to go places like maybe africa or deep asia, I dont see the problem anyways.
