women normally wear pants? Is there an irreligious or sociological reason for this?
I'm just saying this because whenever you picture a woman from a non-Western country, you always picture them in a sarong, kimono, hijab, dress or wrap of some kind. Countries and geographical areas like Africa, rural India, fundamental Muslim countries or SW Asia.
I am from America, but I have travelled to several European countries, plus Saudi Arabia/Kuwait/Iraq.

What are you talking about, women wear pants all over the world. Every place I've been too outside of the U.S. I've seen women wearing pants, skirts, dresses, coveralls, what ever they feel comfortable in or have to wear at that time. Where are you from and what country do you currently live in? have you been anywhere outside of your home town, city, state, country?

women in asia wear pants...the younger generation even wears DENIM *gasp*

plus, when you say "western" countries...i mean, there are a LOT of countries in there. america, england, germany, france, turkey, poland...which countries do you mean? because it's far more likely to see a german woman in pants than, say, a polish grandma.

you know many asian women who wear the kimono?

i'm in the military and have traveled all over, and most people from other countries under the age of thirty speak pretty good english as a second language and wear typical "western" gear (sneakers, denim, etc)

the reason National Geographic and what have you show women in traditional dress is it's just more interesting to Americans...it's not something we're used to seeing, so a colorful sarong is going to draw more eyes than a 20 year old in a tank top and flip flops in an indian market.

Trousers have always been normal wear for women in China. Also in many middle eastern countries. They are often considered more modes than dresses by Muslims.

I remember once many years ago when I was waiting for my oldest son to come out of school, I heard a conversation between two other mothers waiting nearby. One was a Muslim, and she was complaining that the weather was so hot, and she had asked her husband if she could wear a skirt instead of trousers. He said no, but she could wear shorts if she wanted to. As she pointed out in exasperation to her friend, the shorts he said she could wear were much more revealing than the skirt she had wanted to wear, but because shorts count as trousers apparently they seemed more suitable to him. An interesting point of view.

Well ive been to nigeria and ive seen many women who wore jeans or trousers if it suited them. Also if you go to the business districts you you can see many women wearing those women suits.

Also in egypt i saw that there were many women that wore 'pants' but normally in city regions.

~im guessing that your american and pants to you is my trousers because in UK pants refers to underwear~
