Can there be Jewish Christians? Jewish Buddhist? etc...
If being Jewish is a religion...what exactly do they believe?

Me and my friend are discussing this, and these are some questions that came up.
I know back in biblical times, everyone who wasn't a Jew as a Gentile and Isralites were all considered Jews. My understanding is that being a Jew was like a race and they believed in God. When Jesus came, some believed he was the son of God and some didn't. I think the one's who did/do believe he was the son of God are Jewish Christians? am I right or completely wrong? lol Because...like Paul was a Jew and wanted to Kill Christians, but then he became one...was he still a Jew? idk..
Kismet, do you agree with Ms Asher?
Thank you guys for helping me understand. As you can see I was very confused.

Being Jewish is really more cultural. Because my mother was born Jewish and she converted to Christianity and she still claims that she is Jewish (ethnically). So yea, its defiantly cultural/ethnic when it comes to being classified as Jewish.

The Nazis classified us as Non-Aryan (Non-White) and said we were a separte race called Semites, and that should go back to Palistine (a.k.a. Israel). And if we didn't they were just going to kill us off.
They were right about us being Semites (Jews, Arabs and other Middle Eastern people are Semites), but that dosen't give them the right to kill inocent people. So being Jewish is also a racial thing as well.

And then again according to some branches of Judaism, you are not Jewish unless you practice Judaism exclusively. So its also a religious definition.

What we believe in is the G-d of the bible (what Christians call the Old Testament). And we believe exclusively in him and no other deity is associated with Him or is equal to Him (i.e. no other god, goddesses, trinity, etc).

The first Christians were all Jewish and they practiced Judaism. If it weren't for Paul, Christianity today would be a sect of Judaism and not a separate religion. Paul was still Jewish but he was a self hating Jew and he tried to get rid of all traces of Judaism that was present in early Christianity by saying that the laws were obsolete and that you really didn't need to follow them in order to be a part of the faith. He basically went against what Jesus had taught, and I quote Jesus: "I have come not to destroy the Law, but to fulfill it."
By throwing out the Law and other things that were part of Christianity that Jesus had taught, Paul created modern day Christianity.

We Jews are both an ethnicity and a religion, but we are certainly not a race.
Jews come in all colors; you can convert into Judaism, but you cannot convert into a race!

Religion, if it was a race you couldn't convert to it on your own will.

Can there be Christian Atheist, Christian Buddhist....?

What Jews Believe - http://www.whatjewsbelieve.org/

Even if some Jews did believe in Jesus at the time, there is no way their descendants are still Jewish because they married Gentiles and other Christians who most of them were NOT Jewish.

The idea of a Jewish Christian is just as absurd as a Jewish Muslim or a Muslim Christian.

We are not a race, Jews come in all shapes and colors and sincere converts from any race are accepted and are 100% Jewish once they convert.

answer: There is NO such thing as a Jewish Christian or Christian Jew.

Judaism is a religion and they accept converts. One of the most famous women in the bible was a convert - Ruth. The first called by G-d was Abram and Sarah - they weren't Hebrew.

No Jew believes in Jesus, if they do they are Christians and no longer Jewish, not part of the religion or the community of Jews.

Paul was a self-hating Romanized apostate who became a Christian. He was not a practicing Jew but Jesus was.

Jews believe in keeping the covenant with G-d, honor Him and only Him and upholding his 613 laws (the ones they can without the grand temple). They don't believe you have to be Jewish to reach G-d, just righteous. That's why it's not easy to convert to Judaism - one doesn't have to be Jewish to reach heaven.

Once again, despite what Christians might say - there are NO Jews who believe in Jesus.
