Are Europeans as accepting of outsiders changing their cultures/ways as outsiders...

...are of Europeans changing? their cultures/ways?

I ask this because I was recently on a travel forum in which Americans/Europeans were discussing Europeans criticising countries they have immigrated to (the US and Australia seemed to be particularly favourite targets). The belief was that the criticism from the Europeans was "constructive criticism" and could only help change the new countries to be better places. When the subject turned to non-Europeans moving to European countries and criticising them, the belief was that there was no reason for the European countries to bow to foreign pressure and change.

Is this the way Europeans really think? Is it really alright for Europeans to effect change in other countries while actively discouraging it in theirs?

I'd really like to hear from Europeans on this.
To Becs: These were not European AMericans. These people were Europeans AND AMericans you dolt.
