Are chances higher getting killed in America or in the Military ( Army)?

I mean with all the gang violence, drunk drivers now-a-days, weather, diseases, sport accidents, etc in America don't you think that chances are higher of getting killed in the U.S. than serving in Iraq or Afghanistan?

your chances are about double of being killed in iraq/afghanistan than they are of being killed from a drunk driver. its actualy like 2.2x or something close to that, i did the math once dont care to do it again.

It's probably safer in a war zone. Besides, haven't you heard the neocons saying anyone in the military volunteered to die?

If you want to be safe in the military, join the Marines, they will train you to protect yourself and other marines around you.

its pretty easy to get killed in either situation. the way i look at it is, i could die walking the streets in a perfectly safe place in america, the war just basically accelerates that because its putting you into a dangerous situation. my boyfriend just came back from iraq a few months ago and he said he felt safer there than here. so i guess it really depends on what your job is in the military and where you are in america, in the end, we're all going to die anyways so might as well die doing something for somebody rather than not doing anything.

Those that have crunched some numbers say it is. Keep it simple though, picture yourself living in a small city of about 30,000 to 60,000 people living in it. So far this year about 134 people have been killed in that town over 70 of which are Americans. That's roughly the coalition military population is in Afghanistan. If you look at it that way, it's not a safe place to be. I'm not sure we have any cities of like size in the U.S. with that kind of fatality ratio. If we do, that's one place to avoid.

FBI crime stats show that over 2000 people were murdered in California last year, and that is more every year in California than Iraq and Afghanistan together per year. So I think we should pull out of California.
