Any time a question comes up that needs a choice, from a husband shopping to a businessman with a client they no longer have to make that choice themselves. The minute there's a problem, out comes the cell & a superior (the wife of course! in the first instance) is called to make the decision, thus removing themselves from the responsibility of their choices. It's almost like buying a car, where the salesperson has to keep going to the manager to see what to do.
