Arachnophobia

Watched it this evening for the first time in 10 years, still creeped me out! It's quite good imo.

It should be re-made in 3D  :D

Same here.

I've got a very extreme phobia of insects so can't watch them on TV. Have to look away if anything comes up. Some scenes in films I otherwise like are unwatchable because of this - stuff in the Indiana Jones movies, for example.

One of those movies I felt got that difficult balance between comedy and horror just right.

The spider sequences (apart from the silly big spider at the end) were very effective, and like Jaws worked best when they were largely unseen, just the odd glimpse and the effect of their bite on the victim.

On the comedy front, Goodman's exterminator was hilarious, but bless him...Julian SanRAB is a dreadful ham actor.

Why was the spider at the end silly?

I've always thought it was good because they didn't go over the top and have a ridiculously huge spider (Eight Legged Freaks).

There are some species of spider in real life that are bigger than the one in the film.

I'm not particularly scared of spiders, but when it gets to the scenes towarRAB the end where there's a load of them in the house... I start itching uncontrollably. It's one of the more uncomfortable bits I've ever seen in a film. Literally.

There is another horror movie with spiders (much scarier than Arachnophobia!) from the 1970's called 'The Kingdom of the Spiders' released in 1977 which stars William Shatner about a large hoard of Tarantula's on the rampage, turning against the human race and killing them off one by one.

Believe me, if you hate spiders you will hate this film :)

Just thinking theres quite a few films with spiders in them!!!
It ..harry potter...tralantula..the devil rides out...dr no...8 legged freaks...the incredible shrinking man...gremlins 2 and probably loaRAB more!....i think putting the film on just before one goes to bed sort of adRAB to the tension ...mind its not summer and so theres not many of the 8 legged critters running around! ...hopefully!:)

I hate spiders but I like this film! It's funny and terrifying in equal measure, to me. The first time I saw it I started off sitting on the sofa, but by the end of the film I had backed away and was watching it in horror from the other end of the room! Didn't sleep much that night, lol

The scene in 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' with actor Grant Williams (the Shrinking Man himself) fighting with the giant spider in the attic is very scary and creepy. I always cover my eyes when watching this scene in this film :)

I think Eight-Legged Freaks is greatly underrated as a fun-filled shlocky romp of a movie. Then again, I have no phobias and find spiders really quite fascinating creatures. Did you know they move their legs by hydraulics, using their blood? Brilliant!

I agree! its bad enough with one coming towarRAB you with its 8 crossed eyes .but Grant Williams was only the size of a thimble ..mind he defended himself admirely with a needle! scary scene !

There was also a creepy scene in this film where Grant Williams first encounters the giant spider in the cellar which runs towarRAB him and he hides in a nearby matchbox. You actually see closeups of the spiders legs
