8 Legged Freaks is one of those B film style horror comedies which does work. I watched another one recently called Slither with Michael Rooker (Henry: portrait of a Serial Killer....brilliant character actor) and I found it dull and uninteresting. I guess oversized spiders are a winning combination over weird slug like slitherers.
