Apple Lawsuits against Symbian Theme Developers.

How insane is this! After years of people swapping s60 icons for Apple themed icons Apple has apparantly had enough. Something that actually promotes the brand and keeps apple as a topic of interest. Damn they're becoming aggressive already. I'm hoping Nokia squashes these yo-yos like a grape......kind of what microsoft does on a daily basis despite all of those "cute", "I can do this" commercials.

Cisco suing Apple for the name "iphone" which belonged to Cisco

Sweet. Apple can desperatley try to win nothing, like those stupid commercials they have

lmao...i forgot about that..how funny would it be if they couldnt use the "iphone" name. God I would love that...hmm... icell, iphone2, iphonehome, i_phone, iph0ne, ...ipwned!

Jobs says that he he was waiting for more than 2 1/2 years to release his phone. But as we know from Cisco that they have been approached for the name 'iPhone' only last year. That means Apple started this concept of iphone only last year? Or they really dumb to sit idle for 1 1/2 years and the approached Cisco when they realized that they don't own that trademark?? Sorry for the off the topic conversation

i have two ipods and i would love to see nokia destroy apple. they are so greedy and willing to sue anyone over anything. the worst thing about apple though is the fanboys, ive already read one of them saying the lg prada phone takes its design from the iphone. not sure if anyone has seen this but i think the iphone is actually the one ripping off another company check out the openmoko phone oh ya not to mention the fact that the iphone costs about 250 to make and the subsidized cost with a contract is still so friggen much.....steve jobs is a greedy little prick and his 1 dollar salary is only for tax purposes

Apparently Cisco bought a company (a while ago) that owns the copyright to the name, and they have had it for a long time. Part of the drama is that Cisco (or it's subsidiary) didn't use the name within the amount of time that you need to in order to keep the copyright. I think I read all that on Engadget, if you want to check it out for yourself.

Well, if they're going to cry about it. . .

I didn't understand all the hype about the iPhone until today. I realize exactly where Jobs and Apple stands on their products, and it's beyond aggravating.

Steve Jobs and his narrow minded, self centered, and arrogant company, Apple, took a look at the current state of mobile phones (based on the current models supplied by US carriers) and seemed to be very disappointed. "Why can't these devices hold as much music or play movies like our iPods?", they asked. So they set out to design a phone with what they thought would be the best features in the history of the world without any need to expand on it (3rd party apps) or give mention to any other companies efforts (Quote: "The last thing you want is to have loaded three apps on your phone and then you go to make a call and it doesn't work anymore," -Jobs to the New York Times). "We are Apple after all, right?" So they announce the iPhone and it blows the ignorant US masses away, while the rest of the world has questions. "No 3rd party apps? No Microsoft Office support? Why didn't you include UMTS? Where's the autofocus and the flash on your 2mp camera? I can't download music from iTunes with it?"

Now they're threatening to sue theme creators for using their icons on Palm and Symbian devices? (they should be honored to see such a thing in the first place) Also, there isn't a copyright on the images. If they didn't want people to see or use such icons, then they should not have posted images of the UI in the first place. That, or put a copyright on the images themselves. Then, they'd have to not allow photography at the iPhone's premier. This is ridiculous.

I didn't have a problem with Apple until now. For this reason alone, I am all the more anxious for the N95. I don't need a 5mp camera and I don't need GPS, but NOW I need the phone that undoubtedly defeats the iPhone and its ignorant user in every possible way.

I saw one of the new PC vs Mac commercials.

PC was having a camera attached to his head. The Mac guy touted the fact that the new Macs have a camera built in.

Then I remembered the iPhone has 1 camera on the back. Not only is the 2mp camera 2 year old tech, but they forgot the front conference cam. The 6630 was capable of doing video calls way back in 2004.

Way to stay on the forefront of technology Apple!

Jonny, I wanted to concur on the N95

But when I saw your name, im like...pfffff...another Nokia member trollin around

admit it dude, u never were gonna get the iphone

I'm not either..its for losers with "ipods"

N95 all the way.

Well I agree with Jonny on the image copywriting. I don't see how they have a case, but can see the fact that they have so much money and threatening being a deterrent (I mean who has the money to sit and fight Apple, even if you know you are going to win).

I was, and probably still am, going to buy an iphone (unless Nokia does a rush job on the E90), and I might, and probably am, going to be absurdly dissapointed in it. And, when all the dissapointing tech reviews come back for the phone, Jobs and the fanboys will say "it's not FOR you!" and all I can respond with is... "Ham!"

Anyway. I think I might get creative and make a UIQ theme (or find one) with the iphone icons. I think that would be cute and with a white M600 I am sure I can fool unsuspecting pretty girls into thinking it's an iphone and coming home with me.... I am not sure if that really follows, but it's worth a shot.

I wish I could find an old post of mine relating to the iphone. I remember there was a discussion about what it would be, what kind of features and what not. I remember saying that the iphone would probably wow the public, but would not impress me featurewise and it doesnt. Its a smartphone, yet it doesnt allow 3rd party apps or have support for ms docs. Its a music phone however the largest storage capacity is still only equal to what nokia already offers. It certainly wont be any kind of messaging phone with only a touchscreen, try sending emails or 30 sms a day with just a tiny on screen qwerty keyboard.

As far as I can tell the iphone is a great looking phone with features that have been available for a long time, and a serious lack of features that are unexplainable. In terms of innovation the proximity sensor is probably the biggest one, but only applies to touchscreens. Apple seems to be as arrogant with this iphone as anything else they have made, and they truly have no reason to be. The iphone is officially a bust, of all the people I know I am by far the biggest tech freak, and the only one who would spend upwards of even 300 dollars on a phone. That translates into this, not a single person I know would be interested in buying the ibust.

I will buy the best phone on the market. I will buy the phone that does more than my current phone, and with ease. If the iPhone offered such features, then I would have no problem jumping ship. Hell, I even thought about getting a Dash or a Pearl a few months ago, but decided against it because I didn't want to sacrifice my camera. When you show me a phone that fits my requirements, I will stray away from Nokia, but until then, I guess I'm thrown into the category of brand loyalty. All this talk makes me glad I swapped my iPod for a Zen.

On the contrary! allaboutsymbian.com posted an article about the iPhone that described how the 7650 (yes the 7650!) had similar technology. People ended up complaining about it so much that Nokia took it off their future models and that was the end of it. http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/Just_One_More_Thing_Its_the_i7650.php
It's a good read overall.

I'm sure there's going to be plenty of people that think their cute built-in GoogleMaps is so unique on their trendy iPhone .
