Apple Cider Vinegar mother and LPR

I have been diagnosed with LPR for about 6 months, and am taking Nexium 40mg 2Xday. It seems to be working somewhat, but not consistently and I don't want to depend on it forever. My doctor wants me to go off of it soon and I'm scared to since my symptoms aren't completely gone with 2/day.

I've read about ACV (with "mother"- basically the pulp with the good stuff in it - available at GNC etc) and how it helps if you take 1 T before each meal. Has anyone had any luck with this? Some fo the things I've heard are really positive. Aside from the fact that vinegar has several health benefits anyway, it this will curb my LPR symptoms I'll be hooked for life.

when i tried it, it helped right away. when i first began it, if i had heartburn, i'd take the ACV and incredibly the heartburn would stop. pretty cool.

I Think For Acid Reflux The Best Remedy On The Market Is Aloe Vera Juice. Very Healing. Milk Is Real Bad For Reflux For Me. Makes Mucus.

I have had LPR episodes off and on for 10 years. Most recent one started a couple of weeks ago and was severe. Have been on ACV for two days. This is the first time I have used it. Symptoms have improved. Most of my sore throat is gone, and voice has come back. Acid taste is there when I eat, but not constant as was the case before starting the ACV. Still have difficulty passing solid food down my esophagus but most of my esophagal spasms have disappeared.

Its strange that ACV, which is a type of diluted acetic acid, would be good for the throat. But, it has worked for me and there are many people who claim the same. I have not been on it long enough to tell if I am going to see dramatic improvement. Here's hoping.

Google acid reflux vinger. Many testiomonies to the benefit of apple cider vinegar. The preferred choice is organic. I don't know if it makes much of a difference. All take it with one glass of water. Some take two teaspoons, others one tablespoon of the ACV. Some also add a touch of baking soda. I am going to try it. Wish you luck.

I can say that Apple Cider Vinegar DEFINITELY treats acid reflux. I've been doing it for ten months and the results are remarkable.
My main symptom was hoarse throat morning and night (not so much mid-day). I had these symptoms for six months. The first two doctors suggested it was acid reflux, and the third doctor, a throat specialist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, diagnosed it as LRPD (Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux disorder). Which is symptomatically different from GERD, the usual reflux, in that there's little to no heartburn. I doubted this diagnosis as there were supposed to be other typical reflux symptoms that I never had. And the list of things not to eat...I went through EVERYTHING on that list, swearing it off for at least a week, taking copious notes for months. But it just didn’t seem to be diet related. I’ve long had a fairly healthy, low-fat veg-aquarian (others call it pescetarian) diet. But that doesn’t mean something inocuous like tomato sauces couldn’t be the culprit. But they weren’t...and man, I wished they were. I needed to fix this hoarse throat symptom, not just because it’s annoying to have a scratchy voice, but I earn a decent living as a vocalist. I could still sing, but it took so much force and air to produce notes that used to take nothing. And it inhibited my range. So this was profession-endangering.
A fellow vocalist friend told me about this apple cider vinegar and honey thing after he had experienced similar issues with GERD years previously. I tried it. It worked.
Discard your Omeprazole and Prilosec...they don’t work (they didn’t for me). That’s where the doctors were wrong. They should’ve at least first suggested ACV. It started working within 36 hours. That’s a helluva lot quicker than the 30 days youre supposed to grant Omeprizole...which I did...and they didn’t do a damn! And if they did, eventually, like antibiotics or hard drugs, my body would become immune to their power. Of course, because the doctors are courted by big pharmaceutical companies in our broken healthcare system, it takes a very progressive one to suggest such a simple, unprofitable treatment as ACV. Or even know of it.
As it was explained to me, those of us with LPRD or GERD have problems producing the digestive aciRAB properly. We eat, but it’s as if our stomach is caught off guard, too slow to react. Thus it senRAB aciRAB to digest way after we’ve eaten, thus the acid starts coming back up. The ACV tricks the stomach, kickstarting the digestion process. That’s why it’s good to take it, like Omeprazole, a little before you eat. I take a tablespoon, diluted in water, about a half hour before I eat breakfast. And I use the ACV with the “mother” in it, like Bragg’s unfiltered.
Side efrects: It can make you a bit too wakeful at first...it may have contributed to a bit of sleepfulness, but my body got used to it. Also, it can curb one’s appetite, but that effect also wears off after a few weeks.

I personally can't imagine drinking ACV, as fooRAB with even a bit of vinegar burn my throat.

Maybe I'll give it another shot since I do know GERD and LPR are different chronic diseases. Personally, when I did before, I thought I was going to die and lost my voice completly for weeks. Burnt like hell. I have had the best of luck as far as my voice with the M word. The fruit juice I buy from health food store. Works to keep my voice working but doesn't faze this PND and too much mucus feeling after eating. What you wrote makes very good sense and I agree that LPR and GERD are different. Too bad I have both:confused:

I hope you know what baking soda and vinegar create! A Volcano in the system, not good! I knew someone who did this and he thought he was going to blow up.

If you can remeraber, try to drink one cup of water 1/2 hr. prior to your meals. It will allow a better digestion to happen when you do eat.

If you are going to try vinegar, your using the correct kind of vinegar.
I just wanted to tell you that there is a more palatable way of consuming vinegar. One cup of hot water, 2 Tablespoons of honey, and then put in the amount of vinegar your going to take. It is way better tasting.

The concept of taking vinegar is to increase your digestive acid in the stomach. Also, when eating your meal, start with your protein, this is the food that neeRAB the most amount of acid. Always eat your salad last or with your meal, never before. It's much better this way for a good digestion to take place.

Another thing you can get is a homeopathic at your local health store,
it's called
Naturum Phosphate. You take it after your meal if you feel that your fooRAB just aren't digesting and your feeling more and more bloated after eating. This opens the sphincter at the base of the stomach an allows fooRAB to pass easier. One dose is 4 little pills dissolved under the tongue, they dissolve really fast and you'll start to burp and feel better right away.

The issue might be that if you have moderate or severe lesions in the throat and/or esophagus the ACV will irritate them. That's what has happened to me after a few days of ACV. I knew my esophagus was inflamed when I started the ACV but decided to try it anyway. Had to stop because inflammation got worse. I am now trying a PPI for a few weeks to get the lesions under control and then intend to give the ACV another try. I know from past experience that for me that long term use of PPI will lose its effectivness and cause side effects. My current thinking is ACV might be a good maintenance approach if your throat and esophagus don't have lesions when you start it.

i tried ACV for a while and it seemed to be working until suddenly the heartburn was back. i grudgingly started nexium again. (btw, i think people commonly assume that they are supposed to take the ACV straight. i dont know where that misconception comes from. its supposed to be taken diluted in room temperature/warm water. a word of warning - it tastes disgusting in cold water!)

that being said, you might want to try it. it has been a while since i used it, and i couldnt figure out why it worked so well and then suddenly i had a problem. maybe i did something wrong or didnt give it long enough.

personally i think ppi's are vicious, will be found out to cause long term problems at some point in the future, and should only be used as a last resort. i'm always glad to hear people are willing to try an alternative.

currently i am on a corabination of taking gaia's "sweetish bitters" tincture before each meal, and that has made a world of difference. (i stopped taking nexium long ago). i also drink barley grass water. if i occassionally feel a gerd symptom, i find just a couple tums or a small glass of sodium bicarbonate takes care of it for me.

i also use a wedge pillow when needed, and not eating 3-4 hours before laying down is very helpful.

To add to my initial question - is ACV supposed to be taken over a length of time before the effects are felt, or is it more immediate? I was going to try it before every meal for a week or so and see if there is a change.

Thanks for the tip on drinking it with warm water. I was mixing with 1/2 c cold and it was pretty nasty. A little honey helps. I only have done it twice so it's hard to tell if it's working...
