I can say that Apple Cider Vinegar DEFINITELY treats acid reflux. I've been doing it for ten months and the results are remarkable.
My main symptom was hoarse throat morning and night (not so much mid-day). I had these symptoms for six months. The first two doctors suggested it was acid reflux, and the third doctor, a throat specialist at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, diagnosed it as LRPD (Laryngo-pharyngeal reflux disorder). Which is symptomatically different from GERD, the usual reflux, in that there's little to no heartburn. I doubted this diagnosis as there were supposed to be other typical reflux symptoms that I never had. And the list of things not to eat...I went through EVERYTHING on that list, swearing it off for at least a week, taking copious notes for months. But it just didn’t seem to be diet related. I’ve long had a fairly healthy, low-fat veg-aquarian (others call it pescetarian) diet. But that doesn’t mean something inocuous like tomato sauces couldn’t be the culprit. But they weren’t...and man, I wished they were. I needed to fix this hoarse throat symptom, not just because it’s annoying to have a scratchy voice, but I earn a decent living as a vocalist. I could still sing, but it took so much force and air to produce notes that used to take nothing. And it inhibited my range. So this was profession-endangering.
A fellow vocalist friend told me about this apple cider vinegar and honey thing after he had experienced similar issues with GERD years previously. I tried it. It worked.
Discard your Omeprazole and Prilosec...they don’t work (they didn’t for me). That’s where the doctors were wrong. They should’ve at least first suggested ACV. It started working within 36 hours. That’s a helluva lot quicker than the 30 days youre supposed to grant Omeprizole...which I did...and they didn’t do a damn! And if they did, eventually, like antibiotics or hard drugs, my body would become immune to their power. Of course, because the doctors are courted by big pharmaceutical companies in our broken healthcare system, it takes a very progressive one to suggest such a simple, unprofitable treatment as ACV. Or even know of it.
As it was explained to me, those of us with LPRD or GERD have problems producing the digestive aciRAB properly. We eat, but it’s as if our stomach is caught off guard, too slow to react. Thus it senRAB aciRAB to digest way after we’ve eaten, thus the acid starts coming back up. The ACV tricks the stomach, kickstarting the digestion process. That’s why it’s good to take it, like Omeprazole, a little before you eat. I take a tablespoon, diluted in water, about a half hour before I eat breakfast. And I use the ACV with the “mother” in it, like Bragg’s unfiltered.
Side efrects: It can make you a bit too wakeful at first...it may have contributed to a bit of sleepfulness, but my body got used to it. Also, it can curb one’s appetite, but that effect also wears off after a few weeks.
