AOL's Top 25 Animated Films List

That isn't a horrible list. But I think I threw up in my mouth just a little bit when I saw Shrek so far up on the list. Yuck. Pass the mouthwash.

I quite liked Shrek myself, but I agree, the movie's not top 5 material. And I wish there was room for Mask of the Phantasm. But I've seen worse lists.

Even though they don't have much originality, it's really great to see some old Disney classics on that list! It goes to show you that they can still get some love and attention, even after what Eisner did to the mouse house!

Honestly, I think this is truly a great list, but why can't Lion King be #1 instead of Toy Story? I'm getting real tired of Pixar's stuff overshadowing Disney's original intellectual properties:shrug: ! I wouldn't really mind if Aladdin were #1 on that list instead!

Probably because Disney doesn't really have many original intellectual properties, just adaptations.

And yes, substantial evidence suggests that The Lion King was supposed to be an adaptation of Kimba which went under a few significant changes to create an original film.

You may be right, but most of those adaptations are public domain stories!

BTW, if Disney did give their adaptations of public domain literature stories different or unique names(e.g. naming their adaptation of Snow White & The 7 Dwarves something like "Winter White" and The Sleeping Beauty something like "Slumberina"), would you consider that making original intellectual properties?

I heard they tried to secure the rights to Kimba in order to create The Lion King, but their attempt failed, so they just went ahead and billed it as an original film, even though it may still had some similarities to Kimba:sweat: !

Until their paise of Toy Story (#1), it didn't even seem like the list was in any particular order. They only seem relatively impressed with The Incredibles, despite it being #4.

I think that Telegraph list from a few months back had the right idea in including short films. The pickings are just too slim when you only include features.

I agree with a few people...it's actually a pretty good list..maybe a few newer things don't belong, but not bad...

I don't think both Toy Story films should be in the Top 25, though they're both fine films...two films I'd probably put in the 25 would be Akira and Prince of Egypt..

You know, the AFI's planning a top 10 later this month, and it's restricted entirely to American movies. It'll be even more desperate.

Let's see if I can predict it: some Disney movies, some Pixar movies, Shrek, The Iron Giant, and if we're lucky maybe Waking Life or some other oddball entry.

Wow, no Miyazaki, that'll be hard. Also, once again, likely no Phantasm. I guess the movie's praise is just restricted to the fanboys.

Anyway, this will likely be Pixar's list.

I could never really see why Shrek, Finding Nemo, or Spirited Away garnered so much praise. I'm not a very big fan of The Incredibles or The Nightmare Before Christmas, either. Grave of the Fireflies, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm, and maybe even Cowboy Bebop: The Movie deserved to make the list more than half the titles on there.

Shrek: was original at the time, great Michael Eisner parody, had a heart despite fart jokes
Finding Nemo: beautiful animation, easily likable story, some great characters (Dory, Bruce, Crush)
Spirited Away: fantastic animation, many inventive concepts, one of Miyazaki's best character arcs
The Incredibles: intense action, philosophically provocative satire, never gets boring
Nightmare Before Xmas: like nothing anyone had ever seen before, great design, amazing operatic score
