Anyone grew up with mentally ill parents? How did you learn life/coping skills?!?

I grew up with a mother who suffered from depression/paranoia and who hoarded for half of my life. I can tell you that it has pushed me be driven, financially stable, ambitious and very aware of myself. Life skills like cooking, cleaning, laundry I learned from working a lot at fast food places.

The one thing that is undeniable to me is that I picked up a lot of emotional baggage from my mother. I don't have a lot of friends like I used to have and have developed hardcore trust issues. I am surprisingly Okay with that though.

I think that by traveling outside the world, spending time with family abroad, focusing on my education, self help books!(which are all things I've had huge success with) would be great tools to help me understand the world a little bit better? Would that be a good idea?
Wow, this is what I'm talking about, to me this is still like a revelation!
Okay well this is what I get for asking a question online.Life is tough.. even online LOL. I get it.I was kinda hoping to get a less general perspective but w/e I learned something...

Thanks.
