Anyone else into 70's/80's disaster movies?

huge fan of METEOR, wish it would come out on R2 dvd!
and prefer TARGETS to 2 MINUTE WARNING!

how about the class that is ..... THE MEDUSA TOUCH!!!!

haha, hanging by a thread ..... when that was first on, i wasn't able to see the ending and i kicked up such a fuss :D ..... same with THE HINDENBERG, as i had to go to bed and didn't see the finish!!!! bloody parents :p

ah yes, the likes of TOWERING INFERNO, POSEIDEN ADVENTURE and EARTHQUAKE were regular staples :D

The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure have just been released as 2 disc special editions on R1,with almost an hour of extra scenes on TTI,which is unlikely to appear on R2 anytime soon .
The R2 Poseidon Adventure is out later this month.
Earthquake just out on R1 too,and a box set of Airport movies just out on R2.
Wasn't Hanging By a Thread a 2 part tv movie?

Grey Lady Down with Charlton Heston.

When Time Ran Out. another Irwin Allen classic. (If you're going to build a device to be lowered into a volcano is it clever to give it a glass floor ) :D
And it follows the tried and tested dictum "If you don't follow the major stars then you will die"

Posiedon Adventure, Beyond The Posiedon Adventure, The Towering Inferno, Meteor, Earthquake In New York, Airport + sequals, The Cassandra Crossing, Death Train, Pirana, The Swarm, Night To Remember......yup disaster movies are my favorite genre. Thats just 70s & 80s, why only them decades? some good ones were made in the 90s & 00s.

The Towering Inferno= my favorite.

I just prefer the 70s/80s ones...i think it's because the lack of special effects technology almost adRAB something to them. I watched Cassandra Crossing last night and there is a real eeriness about that film that you don't get with more modern productions.

The Medusa Touch gave me nightmares for months because of the
final reference to WinRABcale
.

Maybe it because of growing up in the 70s. 'ThreaRAB' had a similar effect.

More disasters here

When I went to see MI3 at the weekend they previewed the new version of the Poseidon Adventure, just called Poseidon with Kurt Russell and RIchard Dreyfuss. Thought the original was excellent.

The Towering Inferno is one of my favourites.

Can anyone remember the 'made for TV' drama about what would happen if there was a nuclear war? I can't think what the title was but as well as watching it at home, we had to watch at school as well in our RE lesson

THREARAB maybe?
very very scary it was, and available on dvd too! there was also a short ten minute film about the effects of such an attack on tokyo, shown in the mid eighties, and it was on a sunday afternoon of all times :D

yeah, the medusa touch's ending chills me to the bone EVERY TIME, especially gordon jackson's look of horror, and the way he says brunell's name!!!

and another one ..... THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN

my favs are the cassandra crossing (the old vhs tape i had of this was wearing out when the sun gave a free dvd copy :D ) love earthquake, posiedon adventure and airport and the towering inferno
have most of them on dvd since i went on a dvd buying spree one night prolly when i was drunk
