Anthony Hopkins to reprise Dr Lecter role

Brian Cox stole the whole movie with his few scenes and is much scarier than Anthony Hopkins will ever be. His US accent is also a lot more convincing.

I saw Silence of the Lambs first. Then I think Moviedrome showed Manhunter just aftert SOTL release. I still preferred Brian Cox. But then I preferred the whole production on Manhunter. Less budget but more atmosphere imo.

Silence of the Lambs question: When Hannibal told Clarissa to find his former patient Muffet and she goes to a closed up garage and finRAB him dead (preserved?) in a hearse, how does that fit in with the Buffalo Bill caase?

(I watched the start of the film on TV last night, but fell asleep after taht point. I remember most of the film, but don't think I ever understood this connection.)

Thank you

It's a point, but Brian Cox had a lot less screen time in which to make his mark.
Tom Noonan is terrifying in most things: it's a shame his role in the recent "Damages" series didn't amount to much.
How anyone can prefer SOTL, excellent though it is, to Manhunter, beats me.

It's a shame she felt that way. I preferred the ending of the book to the screenplay, and thought there was a lot of interesting stuff about Lecter's understanding of himself and Starling. I also thought she was effectively brainwashed, which kinda excuses her part in it (while meaning the character "loses" the battle).

What? He instructs her to look into "Yourself" - which actually points her to the Yor Self Storage facility, where she finRAB a lot owned by Hester Mofet (an anagram of The Rest Of Me).

Miss Mofet is Hannibal Lecter - it is his storage lot, Mofet (or Muffet as you call him) isn't the patient, the patient's head is Benjamin Raspail who Jame Gumb murdered and put a moth cocoon in the corpses's mouth. So, when Starling discovers the cocoon in the floater's mouth, she can put two and two together and realise that whoever killed the girl in the river also killed the person who's head was in the car.

In effect, it all fits in because Hannibal is letting Clarice know that he already knows who the murderer is, and if she keeps feeding him info about her childhood once her dad was killed, he'll keep feeding her clues as to the identity of Buffalo Bill.

Have to agree with this. Cox's Lector is subtle and that is much more scary than the over the top panto villain Hopkins became. Hopkins was great in SOTL, but after that he failed to incite any sense of dread in me. But that could be down to the writing.

Its all n the writing I think. The writing in SOTL is fantastic. Its just not there in the 2 Harris sequels - he seemed to have run out of ideas and just went for shock horror rather than implied threat.

At the end of the day some people prefer Hopkins and some Cox so I suppose it really doesn't matter in the great scheme of things.
It certainly wouldn't have bothered Multiple Miggs.

Raytops:

I think Hopkins on form is a truly great actor.

I just find/found his Lecter to be too OTT and more pantomine dame in SOLT and find his performance in it far too over-hyped.

Funnily enough, I found him much more palatable as Lecter in 'Hannibal'.

I am captivated by Hopkins every time I watch SOTL, and see more humour there than I used to.
Oh I dont mean the "having an old friend to dinner " line, which is too obvious, but he makes some comments about "Anthrax Island being a delightful place" if I remember it correctly , and other sarcastic dry observations.
Dunno what anyone else thinks about Hannibal, but its ok , until he kills the detective, but when it moves to America it is just very silly.

There are only two good "Lecter" films - SOTL and Manhunter, which is a modern masterpiece. The rest are a right load of pony.

It's about all Hopkins has to work with anyway. I mean when was his last decent movie out? the 12th of Long Ago.

Hopkins is not scary or even threatening in anyway in the Hannibal role. If you ask me the series went tits up long ago.

And Julianne Moore is the only saving grave for that dire Hannibal movie.

Thanks for that. This information didn't actual help them find out that Jame Gumb is Buffalo Bill did it? They made the link through hospital conection I think (rejection for sex change op). And Also through the link with 1st victim connection. So, this clue then from Hannibal didn't help them at all. Have I got this right? Thanks in advance
