Another BEV price increase?

I ran into this back in the 80's. I had 4 modem lines and didn't want to pay extra for touch tone service as I didn't care if the modems dialed pulse or tone and I didn't have an actual phone connected. No options even back then, had to pay for tone. As stated, although antiquated, it is simply a separate list item. In Canada and the US today I would be extremely surprised if there was still a pulse-only capable switch out there.

But, back on topic, I don't necessarily have an issue with a yearly price increase ***IF*** the reason was clear and justifiable. To simply add a new charge without explaination is unacceptable. Even a simple "our costs for xxx have increased" would be better than nothing.

i never said it sucked for the customer...but it sucks for the company (and the industry)...that alone should be a red flag...Bell seems to advertise themselves as the superior choice in TV service...if they were really that good, why do they have to give their service away to keep their customers...that's my point.

I too have given my 30 days notice to cancel Bell. Price increases don't help that's forsure.

I am sure the rest will follow suit. Star Choice/Rogers/Shaw, but at least there are some savings with them. Sports wise/Simsub wise/Customer service wise.

Call in and close your account (say you can get a better deal else where), you will get transfered to the rentention office, say "no" to the first two offers and yes to the third (usually final) offer. Instant savings!

I don't understand the new direction of this thread, does this mean both my ExpressVu and landlines bills will face a price increase? :)

In all seriousness, they might as well call this "Nimiq4/MPEG4 transition fee."
BTW, at least the *C MRF give you lifetime warranty on all receivers (excluding 530).

That was charged on the old 'superwhatever' packages and then removed on the new packages in 2006. If you still had a 'superwhatever' packages you were/are still charged the system access charge.

The goal, in 2006, much like the introduction of the all-in-one packages for Bell Mobility phones, was to keep the prices simple and easy to understand.
Unfortunately, because the prices appeared to be higher on these packages (for mobile they included the system access fee and the 911 charge int he total quoted price) market share was actually lost and unfortunately, the idea was put to the sidelines.
It's hard to convince a customer that thier are additional charges with another provider when all of the advertisements from someone like Rogers or Telus only have the additional charges in the fine print.

When losing market share, a business has to make the choice to either continue their current marketing, or cut their losses and change tactics to something the customer is familiar with.

Sometimes the competition follows one providers lead (the introduction of the Bell Bundle and Onebill followed shortly their after by Rogers introducing the same thing) but if the competition doesn't follow suit, it can be a long hard road to climb once you start losing subscribers.

Nem, who is up way too late

i quit BEV a few months ago (not because of this mind you), but food for thought.

In 2000 a min sub was $7 plus tax :o

I love the fact its called a 'Digital Services Fee'. Its not like I have an option in not having digital service. If you're going to stick it to me simply say its a rate increase and be done with it, don't bother making it a seperate line item.

Maybe I'll phone them tomorrow and when I get bounced to a foreign call centre, I'll ask to have the Digital Service option removed from my account. It would almost be funny to see how long it takes them to figure out that it can't be done.

Ok, so you don't encourage discounts from your television provider. You should be happy with Rogers then!

Why don't you stick your 9200 up on FleaBay with a high reserve or starting bid?

i always hated that too...if you are going to raise the price, just raise the price...don't fool around with all these fees...lets see, multi-receiver fee, system fee and now a digital service fee...i mean come on, that could be almost $15 in "fees"...enough already.

they probably don't even know about the fee increase...i called in a couple of times about LeafsTVHD and was told they no longer carry it, and this was after being put on hold for something like 5 minutes while they checked with THEIR help desk.

Can anyone give me an idea how much TV I would get from Rogers cable for the $68 (all taxes included) I am now paying the greedy pirates at Bell.

Their "Digital Services" fee is the last straw for me - I am sick of being treated like a captive cash cow !

We currently get digital basic, 5 theme packs, US superstations and a second feed of each major US network for the $68 we're [paying ExpressVu.

I want to tell Bell to go to Hell and cancel my service when this latest gouging starts in January 2008.

That's interesting. I guess it depends on who you talk to. The person I talked with tried to feed me the line that it was only new subs that the fee increase was applicable to and then offered two free months to try and keep me.

Last year, when GST amount changed they told us they can not make the change in the system until the day of the actual change because if they do it before and client let's say order a PPV movie before the changes and the already changed the tex level to the new one that PPV will be charged at the new tax level

On the next bill you will see a credit for the taxes difference, which in most cases woudn't be much...

On the One Bill type of bill it doesn't show the % that is going for GST...

On my bill (which covers until January 22nd) they ahven't charged me the extra 3$, i'm wondering whether they will bill me retroctively on the next one

A 'hidden' price increase ("Service Area Charge") may apply to you as well. Details are outlined in

It looks like you can be bad too starting next week. I'm sure there is bound to be some people that can use your skills on the side.
