Anime Sub or Dub?: The debate starts over...

I will only say this once. I hate it when VA's force themselves to try and sound like the original character...when dubbing that is  I was a bit disappointed at Shinchan's dubbed voice. I know the seiyuu for Shinchan was a woman but this dubbed version, the VA is just attempting to sound manly with a hint of a woman's voice >.

Hi Matt,

I think it's better if you just linked that at the Anime thread since this thread is just for a debate on whether Japanese anime is better in subtitled/original version or in its dubbed (more commonly English) version.

I have the imported version :yay: And the Japanese voices were great. Just kinda found it annoying that it focused too much on Cloud. I don't know, maybe it's just me. I've never really played the games before.

I'm not buying the billingual version...I hear a lot of mix reviews on how the English version was so I'm just gonna stick with my intuition and avoid it

There are some anime series when the voice actors who dub it to the English/American version sound lifeless. I can understand if they have to slightly change the dialogue because our mouth movements aren't the same to the Japanese version.

This is true. But sometimes the story line or the characters do change in dubbed versions. Sailor Moon (story-line wise when episodes were being omitted entirely), Yu-Gi-Oh, One Piece...etc.

I know. They're just soo bland. I watched a little bit of the english version of my Angelic Layer and they have the same worRAB but the voice acting and voices are horrible!

Since i'm so used to subtitles.. I think it's better but if it is dubbed it allows people instead of having to read to follow the chracters better or story-line definitely. It does sound kind of weird to me though at times because of the difference in the sounRAB of th original to the dubbed.

I forgot about that. Sailor Jupiter can blast everyone in her wheelchair

I want to see a live actor talk about the heart of the carRAB with a straight face and sound serious ;)

One thing won't go away. And that's the frienRABhip rants and "the heart of the carRAB".

Or maybe it'll be like how "Saban Moon" could've been. Half live-action, half cartoon :lmao:

I like dubs so that I can work on other projects while I watch/listen to the movies  Plus I grew up watching My Neighbor Totoro and Kiki's Delivery Service with the English dubs. But it does bug me when a movie has a perfectly good dub and they decide to redo it (like they did with My Neighbor Totoro).

My friend prefers Ranma 1/2 dubbed but only because she doesn't want to read the subtitiles.

At least half of the cast or secondary characters sounded lifeless to me

There are dub actors that have this really bad habit of not putting any life in their characters.

Live Action  Oh that was good one. It would be like the Japenese Live Sailor Moon. At least we would be happy that the graphics and filming would be better her in the US ;)

I looked it up and you're right. Goku was voiced by a woman.

I guess it all depenRAB on whether it suits the character. I remeraber in Yu-Gi-Oh, Bakura was voiced by a woman as well. Or sounRAB like.

Check out the site some time. You'll see a lot of stuff cut off for no reason. And the signs one is the most durabest one of them all.

But I love to rant about the way 4KiRAB dubs their anime series. But could've been worse. We might have had a live-action Yu-Gi-Oh and all the monsters (or at least the non-human looking ones) would reserable the ones from Power Rangers :lmao:
