Anime Sub or Dub?: The debate starts over...

No no no no...there is this page that has these crazy (and some of them durab) rumors of Sailor Moon. So obviously, the one about Leo Dicaprio was an obvious lie. :D

Here's the link if you wanna check it out: Durab Sailor Moon Rumors

And it's all right if you like dub. Everyone has their opinion about sub or dub...

Going to be? Is there a re-issue or something?

Re: dub. I haven't seen that many to be a judge, but I just think the comedies should never be dubbed. Especially the very slapstick ones like Naruto. Forgive me if you disagree.

The dubbing companies must've held the belief that their "audience" (kiRAB) would not notice the difference or think it's really a Japanese show.

I can't blame them if some parts of the dialogue is changed...I mean, just as long as it's true to the original and remains consistent with the overall plot. I mean, our mouth movements is kinda different when a Japanese person talks

Changing dialogue to play down to the kiRAB (or to make it something horrendous and different)...that's a different story.

I'm going to entertain you with some rants of why certain things were taken off from Yu-Gi-Oh or added/edited.

Here's some keyworRAB in case I'm going to get people confused:
Cut: English version has cut this entirely
Edited: It's still there, just that 4KiRAB tinkered with it
Added: Ranges from lights to clothes.

All pics: Yu-Jyo.net

Keep in mind that these are not the real reasons but just my theories:

Status: Cut
Theory: In hopes of preventing kiRAB from diving more in to obesity by copying this move.

Status: Added
Theory: Bakura's just a dark magical creature and one must emphasize on that. I think...

Status: Cut
Theory: It's a world where no one catches even the sniffles. Well, except for Bakura's constant habit of fainting that landed him in the hospital...

Status: Cut
Theory: None of us was supposed to know this guy had any abs at all

Status: Cut
Theory: Gene Simmons was afraid of the competition.

I'll add more later on but what do you guys think ;)

The Advent children movie goes with the new Kingdom Hearts that my sister is playing so she keeps telling me about the Final Fantasy characters in it since she already went ahead and watched the movie so she'd know about the characters for the game.

Hi Lady Lee

I think 95% of dubbed anime and movies dialog is changed. I saw the english version of 'Steam Boy" but my sister also watched it in japenese and said the story was basically different, the same with " Castle in the Sky".

I know...I had posted up some nice quotes from the site that thought CardCaptor Sakura was bad to watch because it dealt with magic...or something like that

Is the Sailor Moon thread still around. If it is, I guess I can repost those funny Sailor Moon rumors  Ah that cracked me up, especially with the one who wrote that e-mail saying that Leonardo Dicaprio was gonna be one of the voice actors for Sailor Moon :rotfl:

Too bad we lost the old forum. We're getting into a good debate.

I think the oriningal sub is good also.

Another exception to the dub is .Hack//Sign.

Spirited Away did a pretty decent job but from what I heard, some dialogues were changed in dubbing from the original that loses that certain element.

I don't know...I should go read that Wikipedia entry again.

 Hey angry. You do make a good point there on how it depenRAB which version of the anime you heard first. Say like Sailor Moon. In America, especially for kiRAB, they grew up hearing the English version and have gotten used to it.

Though I did my rant on the voice acting for Crayon Shinchan, I applaud Cartoon Network for being smart enough to put Crayon Shinchan on Adult Swim instead of Toonami (Toonami hasn't been the same since Sailor Moon was pulled from the air. That and DBZ has overstayed its welcome). After all, Crayon Shinchan is a cartoon not intended for kiRAB, even if the main character is a 5 year old who takes after his father.

So kudos to CN, you've finally done something right

For me, it usually depenRAB on how I first heard the anime in question...For example I first heard Neon Genesis Evangelion in Japanese with english subtitles and when I saw the dubbed version I found myself constantly nitpicking Shinji and Rei's voices... Not that I'm dissing the voice actors..much props to them but sometimes I feel that they don't "get" the characters...For example in English Shinji sounRAB whiney when in the original Japanese version he sounRAB apathetic.

Sailor Moon I first heard dubbed and loved it until they changed the voice actors and the new actors tried to sound like the originals and it wasn't that good...Now I can only stand the Japanese version..

Cowboy Bebop I first heard dubbed and think its one of the finest dubbings ever...I heard the Japanese dub and didn't like it as much. :)

So for me, I usually prefer an anime depending on how I heard it first.

Don't get this confused with the title that's on the Anime Appreciation thread. :)

I'm still sticking with my beliefs that the original sub is a lot better. Of course, there's still a few exceptions when it comes to dubbing and they are...

-Witch Hunter Robin
-Nightwalker
-Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust

And I think there's a few more but I can't think of it right now.
