Anime references in other movies/tv shows/other

The Mayor of Townsville had a Jigglypuff watch in one of the Powerpuff Girls episodes.

There's also Ling-Ling from Drawn Together.

Not sure if anybody ever noticed this, but in TransFormers: Revenge of the Fallen, in the scene where Sam first enters the dorm room with the crazy consipiracy guy, there's a Naruto poster on the wall in background.

While channel surfing one day I sturabled upon a figure skating competition, and something about a male skater's costume caught my eye: he was dressed as Spike Spiegel from Cowboy Bebop!

The skater's name is Samuel Contesti and he's from Italy. Unfortunately the song he used for his routine was not from CB, but a song from Frank Sinatra I think. If he had used "Tank!" it would've been really awesome.

Something a bit obvious, but back when Kelly Osbourne was a more active fame vampire itv1 ('general channel for the thick and uneducated', to quote Dead Ringers) did a series where she went to Japan and had to learn certain customs. One of these was cosplay where she had to pick a character and cosplay as them at a convention. Amusingly, she chose Lacus Clyne (both her and the show consistently make the mistake of referring to Lacus as a 'powerful superhero). The whole thing was pretty much bad press- they focussed on the more pervy fans with cameras and she ended the bit crying about how only sickos and pervs would engage in this.

And now you see why I had to reference the dig at the channel.

I Got some:

TMNT: Fast Forward referenced DBZ.

Transformers Animated referenced Ghost in The Shell, FLCL, Super God Masterforce, Robots In Disguise (Both earlier TF Anime), Gurren Lagann, GaoGaiGar, Macross Plus and Speed Racer through out the corse of the series.

And There was that opening on The Simpsons that featured the family as Anime Characters.

and I forgot this, But Jetfire from G1 was the ultimate reference to Robotech.

One ep of Excel Saga had references to Robocop, Six Million Dollar Man, and The Incredible Journey (kind of) in the same episode (the one where menchi goes to find her former owner). And in the Animation USA ep of ES, they included excel dressed as wonder woman and mickey mouse.

EDIT: I just realized, the Incredible Journey homage was actually from the first menchi ep, while the robocop and 6 million dollar man parodies were from the second one with the girl from the alps corporation.

Although I'm not a fan of the show, Kappa Mikey's opening featured some look-a-likes of some anime characters. I saw Shampoo from Ranma 1/2 in there...

In the Hong Kong movie "The Beast Stalker", actor Liu Kai-Chi makes references to Fullmetal Alchemist. Although he never states which anime this is coming from, he does quote the whole "equivalent exchange" concept. However, he does mention that it came from a cartoon.

Recent Cowboy Bebop reference: Turtles Forever (the Ninja Turtles crossover movie) features a Faye Valentine lookalike in the crowRAB:

Stinkoman from Home Star Runner is a faux anime character ("Are you looking for a challenge?!!!")

If we're talking about the Spielberg version, it also has a toy figurine of Emperor Pilaf. Coincidentally Justin Chatwin is also in this movie.

Yeah, I know. I was just naming one.

Also, in the show Bones, they found a dead person with an anime-looking mask on, and Bones (the woman) said that it wasn't any famous anime character, such as Sailor Moon, Faye Valentine, or Motoko. They make a lot of anime references I believe in that episode, they even go to a anime cafe with otaku and maiRAB.

^ Yep! If you're wondering, the episode is called The Girl in the Mask, Season 4 Episode 23.

I forget the episode but again in Bones, Hodgins talks a little about Akira.

I was watching HomR from the Simpson's 12th season, and in the beginning they are at an animation convention. Look closely, and you can see a Totoro stand, featuring the cat bus and Totoro! I find that awesome.

In the same episode, Bart watched "Japanimation" which kind of made fun of stereotypical anime. ^.^
