Anime Podcast Talkback (Possible Spoilers, Some Podcasts Linked to May Be PG-13+)

Assuming that Amazon's 4-for-3 deal continues and that new volumes of OP continue to qualify, I might just wait and continue to order them in four-volume batches as each fourth volume comes out.

I've still got a few volumes to buy to complete my collection (I read the local library's copies of 10-13 and 18-21) in the meantime until the speed-up starts, which is, what, Deceraber or January I believe?

But back on-topic, I've tried out a few anime podcasts, and so far the only one I've really stuck with has been Daizex. I think that anime is such a broad subject matter that it really helps to have a very specific focus, otherwise any given topic will wind up being boring to a goodly portion of your audience. And I've found that review-centric podcasts like Anime Pulse don't tend to keep my interest; I think audio just isn't a very good format for anime reviews, I'd much rather read a text review or even watch a video review. I might not ALWAYS be in the mood to listen to an hour, hour and a half of Dragon Ball chatter, but when I am, I know exactly what I'm getting when I toss on an episode of Daizex.

Edit: Not to be annoying, but is there some point to releasing the One Piece podcast in .m4a format (which a finite nuraber of portable audio players support) rather than mp3 format (which virtually ALL portable audio players support, to the point where they're commonly called "mp3 players") that I'm not seeing? Yeah, it's easy enough to find a program to convert them, but why should I have to jump through hoops? I mean, isn't the goal of most podcasts to ATTRACT listeners rather than alienate them for no good reason?

The ANN Podcast "Brickin the House" is annoying me more and more, and I'm not even done with it yet. Lets exercise hinRABight and make fun of old acquisitions! I'm not making a value judgment about show x, but bringing it to America was obviously stupid! Come on guys. Settle for talking about how and why things went wrong and what could be done to make it better, not spending time mocking as if to imply that you always knew better all along. I wouldn't want to bet money that you did.

Also not liking how they look down on other people. Talk about how anime magazines are basically over (true, most are now gone), then acknowledge Otaku USA, then say it doesn't really count and mock the "Otaku USA kiRAB" for the complaining you think they will be making. Likewise, apparently AnimeOnDVD posters are just "Anime on DVD kiRAB." The industry should apparently never listen to them, they're all stupid and are probably lying when they say that they'll buy something.

And lots of ranting about how they got burned out on anime because it was their job. Blah, blah, blah. These guys seem reasonable enough online but this specific podcast episode is self-indulgent crap, I'm sorry. The good points they make don't deserve to get obscured by that kind of stuff.

I've never been a fan of ANN in general. Which makes it worse that they hold so much effective power, get lots of exclusive interviews, etc. There's just something about their attitude that I don't like. Might be the fact they seem to perpetuate a 'If you like anime, it's all your life should be' mantra...

Point taken. We now have episodes in MP3 format available exclusively at the website (OnePiecePodcast.com). I plan to eventually bring that to a new feed, but for the moment more people use M4A and it's a much better format in quality and as a viewing experience. MP3s are available for download until that feed is open.

We're also releasing an One Piece Abridged Series special in the coming days and Episode 29 starred Greg who gave us some great insider information about One Piece and anime in Japan.

Hey all,

I don't usually bump threaRAB, and I've been trying not to self-promote too much on rabroad, but I wanted to let everyone know that J. Michael Tatum will be on The One Piece Podcast on January 10th, 2010 and since we at TZ have one of the smartest communities on the Internet, I wanted to offer you guys the opportunity to submit some questions (preferably One Piece related/Funimation related).

I also wanted to hopefully kick some life in this thread, there are some good Anime podcasts out there that deserve some talkin' about, so hopefully this won't get kicked off the front page all that quickly.

I know this is not One Piece related, but could you ask him how has it been working as the new voice of Scar for Full Metal Alchemist BrotherHood?

Off th' top o' my head:

As Dalton, [xspoiler=Drum Island Spoilers]how did you find the right deliveries for Dalton during Hiruluk's death? Where did you find the strength to get it just right?[/xspoiler]

Hey, thanks for the plug .

I'm a little upset with the random, minor static that forced its way into my mic this episode, but I hope everyone enjoys the discussions as much as we enjoyed having them! The supplemental feature to go along with it was also a blast to work on, digging through updates from the last ten years to link specific stories.

On the raw subject of podcasts, though, I guess since it's been quiet for a while in this thread -- have any other series-specific podcasts popped up in recent months? I really don't need anything other than AWO for my authoritative commentary and reviews on general properties, and as you can tell from my own internet adventures, it's the very niche and narrow-target audience stuff that excites me more than anything else.

Who are these authorities on all the other shows, and who is doing podcasts on them?

Well, I'm a big fan of the Gundamn! podcast, that covers mostly Gundam-related topics, and the occasional mecha highlight like Escaflowne, Dragonar, and Macross franchise round-up.

Noticed this at twitter (yes, I'm actually sort of paying attention to it now):

No license questions, by the way. They never get answered so they're not going to be asked.
