Anime Expo 2009 Talkback

Illumitoon? I forgot about them years ago.

Also, ANN's latest blog entry is from the SPJA Board of Directors Meeting.

Media Blasters gets both SZS and Moyashimon. Wow Funi, having about 90% of the Kondansha titles in your library and you don't got after these TWO!!!. I don't know whether to be scratch my head or facepalm?

Which makes sense as Barry Watson ran Illumitoon (and I believe he was the showrunner on DBZ way back when).

I wonder what the dude's doing these days.

I enjoyed my time there. ^^ I got autographs from Kyle Hebert, Philece Sampler and Tony Oliver. I also took a crack at the bang Zoom Workshop voicing Kamina.

So yeah, ultimately, the best news out of this to me was anime music coming to iTunes (JAM Project!), though I'm interested in going to the Eureka 7 movie event. Third place is probably Viz not screwing its fans by canceling Zatch Bell.

The license announcements in general were pretty tame in my book. I'm hoping for much bigger news at Otakon and San Diego Comic Con, among others. It's a long summer.

Interesting panels too, as expected. Still need to look for reports about stuff Seiji Mizushima said...

Yeah, the anime music on iTunes thing was definitely good news. The best news for me was probably the Eureka Seven movie news. I didn't really care about any of the other licenses. I thought the biggest news would come from Anime Expo, but hopefully there will be bigger news from Otakon. Also, I thought the best news of Anime Expo would come from FUNimation, but to me anyway, Bandai had the best news.

10 bucks says mecha are involved...and it'll be in space.

I don't know how, but it's gonna happen

(Hey did anybody else think "A little Princess" could do it? I don't think so)

"One Piece" is a tween and teen show. While teen anime has worked on [adult swim], as is the case with "Inuyasha" and "Bleach", "One Piece" definitely leans more to the younger end of the spectrum, so it would be surprising to see it on [adult swim].

Film Roman is doing the Dante's Inferno animation with Prod. IG. The rep from Film Roman compared it to Animatrix in that it would be "episodic" with different animators doing different segments.

AX seemed remarkably streamlined this year. It just came off as smaller. The exhibitor hall seemed less elaborate. Got to be more frugal now I guess.

Funimation is only releasing their dub of Sgt. Frog. The dub clips they were showing at their booth and in the panels were of their dub featuring Chris Sabat as Giroro and Todd Haberkorn as Geroro.

The Gundam references were left intact. References to Japanese movies and shows though have been changed to "American" ones.

No, I never said that. They never said that. Adam said they would include the original Japanese as well.

He was talking about the changes made in the dub.

The way it was said at the FUNimation panels in regarRAB to "Sgt. Frog" was that if there was a joke that an American audience just wouldn't get they would change it to an American equivalent. I assume they'll keep references to other anime and certain Eastern fooRAB like curry intact since those are things their audience knows about.
