Anime Expo 2009 Talkback

FUNimation will never do Dragonball right, but it's pretty much common opinion that they do pretty much everything else right. Don't let their incredible mistakes with DB shake your confidence in anything else they do. If anything, it only reinforces the stability of the situation.

I'm just going to go by what the press release said and think it's the proper 4:3.

But did that originally have a cast elsewhere that they changed to Blue Water? Even so, these days they know the fans would crucify them if they recast everyone with Blue Water VAs.

It's also an issue of retail stores not wanting more than one line of the same franchise in order to save space and make room for other branRAB.

ANN put up a blog of the Convention Feedback Session and the news that Production I.G Confirms Involvement in Animated Dante's Inferno Project.

I'm not necessarily what you might call a "fan", but I'm not a gullible "mainstream" viewer, either, but enough about that.

It's not that simple.

A lot of people were waiting for this for a long time. Maybe FUNi didn't MEAN to lie, but they did nonetheless. Even if the Anime Next rep was "misinformed" (as is being claimed), the company is just as responsible for it. Again, their reps need to have to most current and factual info available.

When I say that a company has lost my trust, it's NOT something I say lightly. This isn't a spur of the moment feeling, and I'm not jumping to conclusions either. Using the info I have, and my most clear-headed judgement, I had come to the conclusion that Funimation had violated the trust of its consumers. Dark Fact also mentioned this, but while they didn't have to confirm anything, they didn't have to say something that was a direct contradiction either. If they had just simply said that they couldn't "confirm or deny" this claim, then this issue wouldn't have had to be brought up. What if something like this happens again? Is Funimation REALLY still in discussion with Toei about the One Piece streaming thing? How can anything they say beyond this point be taken into consideration?

For now, their actions are going to have to speak for them. Maybe I'll trust their word again someday, but not now.

Well those are a few changes to a different province, and it was years ago. If they send the Eureka Seven movie to Blue Water, they'd be recasting every LA voice actor from the series to a completely different country and talent (or lack thereof? nah, I kid) pool, which is both completely unnecessary and these days unheard of for, if nothing else, fear of being attacked by rabid fans.

Harmony Gold....I didn't even know they were still around. I havn't been paying attention to them since they bought the rights to Dr.Slump & then let it slip through there fingers. If they'd done there jobs right I'd be watching arale blowing up stuff right now!! (But that was years ago.)

But I will admit I'm Looking foward to the Robotech movie!

Rada-

Pretty much.

I'm convinced that it's coming back. Even Toei wants it back up, which is a very good thing because we all thought that they would be the one to end the deal.

@both GWOtaku and Karl Olson:

I suppose so.

In any case, after thinking it over, and because I'm understanding individual who believes in forgiveness, I've decided to give Funimation another chance...but ONLY one other. If this happens again, then I will consider it a violation of the customers' trust.

That said, their PR department neeRAB to get it together to insure that this doesn't happen again.

EDIT: I just realized I had been taking a "one strike and you're out" position with this whole thing, and I wouldn't want that to happen to me. Plus, this IS Funimation we're talking about. So in retrospect, maybe I was being hasty in my initial position. Now, I feel kind of durab for taking that position in the first place...

I can't say I'll be too sad about Shadow Chronicles as the first movie was mediocre, but does anyone know what the movie is supposed to adapt? Is it going to be a weird mismash or a straight up adaptation of Macross?
