Thursday marks the beginning of this year's Anime Expo, the largest anime convention in North America. Thanks to that distinction it gets a lot of attention from the anime industry as well as thousanRAB of fans, and so a lot of news typically comes out during AX.

This thread is basically a general talkback for everything that happens during Anime Expo 2009. So this thread is for any news or juicy information that comes up, but it also welcomes any talk about panels, guests, events, and just about anything worthy of note. If you happen to be one of those attending AX, feel free to post about your experiences.

As for industry news, people always ask so I looked up all of the panels related to R1 companies or Japanese studios. Big news won't necessarily come out of each one, but I have noted all possibilities.

Though for me it's on the wrong side of the country, it sounRAB like a great convention this year. I'm sure TZ will be reporting about it, so I look forward to that. In particular, I wish I could physically attend the Seiji Mizushima/Yosuke Kuroda panel to hear what they say about Gundam 00. Well, with any luck, someone somewhere will write about it. I also hope that the fans actually ask them good questions that will shed some light on the upcoming movie, among other things.

For industry news, I'm sure FUNimation will be great as usual. I really hope Bandai has some good news, and I hope they have something to say about the crazy nuraber of delays that have gone on for their products this year. There's also unanswered questions about Freedom's release, whether Code Geass R2 will have certain extras like the first season did (like picture dramas, for one thing), why Sci-Fi channel isn't airing epilogues for Gundam 00 season two...yeah.

According to ANN, the only way to watch the Naruto Shippudden dub will be on the DVD releases. In other worRAB, Shippudden does not and will not have a TV deal unless something is signed 11th-hour.

No ADV or Media Blasters panels? That's... disconcerting.

Anyway, you may already know what titles I want licensed so I won't beat a dead horse by mentioning them again.

According to Funimation's Twitter page, the Slayers cast announcement will be made at Anime Expo 2009. I assume it'll happen at the Funimation Industry panel on July 4th.

I can't make it to Anime Expo this year. So I'm hoping that fellow Slayers fans who are going to AX will stop into the panel and give us the 411.

Why doesn't someone pick up shippuden it's a sure thing. It has a good fanbase and kiRAB still like it. Saw a bunch of kiRAB in walmart take every almost naruto dvd they had. It's not like they'll be taking a chance on this. Way to fail Cn Real

yea, I think it stinks all the anime comapnies do this, make ther movies one day events in a small amount of theatres. I know for a fact that the closet theatre that shows fhantom event movies is 2 hours away from where I live, I still really wanna go se the E7 movie, & Since I'll be entering College this year my Schedule is slightly more leanint, but with my luck I bet I'll Have a class that night. Man I really wish anime companies would start making there movies wide releases like the pokemon movies were back in the day, this 1-day special event thing is starting to bug me!

Welp, Viz isn't going to drop Naruto now, so there's nothing to worry about with a lack of a TV release. Besides, now they won't have to waste time on alternate dialogue takes.

Good stuff. Merged with the general AX thread.

In other news, Rightstuf/Nozomi will be announcing something new. They've already got a countdown going on their website:

Edit: More interesting info at Toon Zone News. Of particular note to me is their President and CEO Shawne Kleckner having a "State of the Industry" type of address, though it's only open to media and industry people.

This is yesterday's news, but I'm actually glad that the Eureka 7 movie has been picked up so quickly, particularly because it's a new take on the franchise and, while the online reaction has been a bit mixed in some circles, it still sounRAB quite interesting to me.

On a different note, I guess Bandai didn't have to answer too many of the tough questions this time around. Not much else I can add.

Wow! If they're hyping it that much it must be something cool!

They're smart not to let the regular fanboys in. That way they don't have to listen to people drone on about their "right to fansub" at the Q&A part of the panel.

Some news from the Funimation panel:

-The original New York cast for the four main characters in Slayers will be reprising their roles in Slayers Revolution.

-Dragon Ball box set confirmed.

-Sengoku Basara anime licensed.

I can't wait to hear the news. Too bad I live in Vermont, and too bad I'm working 11-7 every day except Sunday, so I won't even hear the news until some time after 7.

hopefully funi gets something I'm interested in. and viz gets the Hunter X Hunter Ovas and maybe Reborn. Tv plans for Naruto shippuden
Bandai announces dvd plans for kurokami and bluray for gundam 00.
