Android [Phones], Mine, fave apps, etc.

Yeah, FXCamera is my favorite effects app. I gave up on Camera360 today.
And Swype was weird at first, but it's def useful. I switch between using Swype and regular typing, but it's the only way I can text whilst driving.

I'm still rocking the G1 since it was first released. Still going strong.

Still trying to figure out which Android phone to get next, I should be eligible for an upgrade. Might want to wait until Fall to get the HTC Vision though. Not too many good Android devices for T-Mobile :(

OK, I bypassed the AT&T bullshit that prevents loading apps from other than the marketplace. Got the official Google WiFi Hot Spot up and running (using my grandfathered unlimited data plan :D). Awesome.

ive got the incredible and i love it. in all honesty i dont have that much time nowadays to really mess with it as much as id like, but it is a still a very solid and practical phone. super snappy and know unexpected shit. just works. i got pdanet which is REALLY useful for me because the wifi sucks in my house this summer, and i can now use my phone as a modem for free. as dolphinHD browser. flash ready and can download videos and other goodies.

If you can install the official Google Hot Spot app on your phone, you're good to go. I'm still on an unlimited data plan, never purchase "tethering" specifically, and I used my WM Phone with WmWiFiRouter for a WHS, and now using the Google app on the SGS for the same. I just had to 'root' the phone which was basically copying over one file, restarting, holding the volume buttons and then selecting "update".

:D

I just got an HTC Hero b/c my Instinct was about to bite the dust (touchscreen was haywire). Only did that b/c my g/f couldn't get a hold of an Evo for my upcoming bday...not 30 minutes after getting the Hero, g/f texts to say they called and have an Evo...wtf? haha.

this thread made me get a galaxy too. I like it.

DT - The instructions I found on rooting the phone were pretty complex. Which ones did you use? I also have AT&T

Getting the Galaxy now too. Guy at the tmobile store was saying something about the camera being able to take photos with little or no light???

and yeah I tooled around with one and automatically fell in love with the texting swype thing and because I primarily text should be AWESOME. also can't hate that super amoled screen and droid software

I used the method of copying over a file named update.zip, then you restart in bootloader mode (hold both volume keys and press the on button). Then from the bootloader menu you select the update file.

There's also an up front end to do it over at XDA:

Just click to root, click to unroot!

The sideloading (i.e., bypassing AT&T limitation of only using their or the main Google market) is pretty convoluted, but there's a one-click sideloader now too:

Though with it enabled directly on the phone you can download direct to the phone and install vs. having to connect to your PC.

I've been having a blast with customizing, widgets, themes, trying different UIs and launchers:

The notification system just shits on the apple product. I'm also digging AppBrain, I can remote install stuff just using any OTA mechanism (WiFi or 3G), so it doesn't matter where the phone is sitting.

Here's some current Android fun:

I've had the evo since release in early June. Unfortunately, in a moment of carelessness, I dropped it on concrete and cracked the glass this past weekend. It still works though. In fact, I'm using it right now. Just gotta decide if I want to send it to HTC to fix, or try it myself.

getting the droid x in like a week for my birthday. stoked. How much is the wifi hotspot service? and whats the connection stats?
edti: just remerabered the hotspot app is free.
