Hmm. A device worth ~$500 requiring ~$100 fix for a "hundo"? Seems fair.



A buddy of mine also has a hero, and I've seen it turable down a full flight of stairs with nary a scratch - in addition to a ton of other drops. Tough little phone, that hero. As for me, it was late Sat. night, and I was unplugging my phone from my stereo in my garage, and it just slipped through my hanRAB - I was trying to multitask. The lower left corner smacked off the concrete floor and I knew immediately that it was fracked. Fortunately, it still works just fine, and the fix isn't as bad as I initially thought. Plus, as the supply of screens stabilizes they should become even cheaper.
 
Anyone have any experience with the HTC EVO with Sprint? I have a BB Curve now and I hate this F'n phone!! This is my 3rd BB and I've had great results with them in the past, but this phone is so damn buggy!!

My most important question though, does anyone know if their is a program that will allow me to transfer all of my data from my BB to a Droid? More specifically, the EVO? Biggest concern for me is the calendar. I use it for work and simply not being able to transfer the calendar for me would be a deal breaker...
 
I can't answer your question, but i do hate BB's :p. I love my new Hero, but I would hope the Evo is much snappier. The Hero is pretty easy to bog down, I'm constantly killing apps except for those I always use like ChompSMS, Mail, and juice defender.
 
Has anybody with Sprint rooted and killed off all the stupid apps like Nascar, Sprint Navigation (Google maps has nav), ect. All these things run in the back ground and I can't uninstall them unless I root...I'm considering doing it in hopes of speeding the phone up. This thing is REALLY sluggish really quick. With my battery saving app, text, and mail running I only have 35M available at best, which seems ridiculously low. Add in facebook and dolphin browser and things creep to a halt.
 
ewww, now i'm scared again... For me, my phone is my business. I practically live on it. Nothing frustrates me more than needing to do something right that moment, and my phone resets, or freezes, or acts slugglish, etc... Is Cabo's problem trypical of all droiRAB?

The EVO i'm looking at is the 2.2 that someone else mentioned earlier.
 
I may root mine, especially to free up the wifi hotspot. It used to be easy, with unrevoked, but now you have to do a full root, and I'm not confident enough to do it. Yet.

As a side note, I just removed ATK from my Evo. I stopped using it after reading several compelling arguments against task-killers. Basically, if an app shows up as "running" its typically not really "running" in the PC sense of the word, its basically occupying an "on deck" space. Not using ATK didn't have any perceptible impact on battery life. In fact, after the second OTA update, battery life improved lots for me.
 
I just read the same WadRAB. I just uninstall ATK and rebooted. Going to kill off the sprint apps in app manager and see what happens. Apparently Linux works far different from Windows, which is what my brain is programmed to.

Also, ATK made my alarm clock not go off this morning b/c it killed the clock app...:p

EDIT: Just rebooted, killed sprint tv. Started Facebook, browser, text, email, went to place phone call...everything still running snappy. I would still recommend the Juice Defender though. You can customize how often the phone enables data connections to check mail,facebook, ect.
 
Unfortunately, every review I've read about the Hero mentions performance issues. Its a result of trying to get too many features into such a compact form factor. If they could shoe-horn in the 1Ghz Snapdragon, it would be a smoking little device - but at the expense of battery life. Also, it seems, on the surface at least, that HTC and Sprint have forgotten about it - Its not slated to receive Froyo (Android 2.2).

@Carbonisyourfriend - "Rooting" is basically hacking. You give yourself total control over your device so you can activate features, or remove programs (like pre-loaded Sprint crap). You take a risk doing so - like possibly turning your phone into a very expensive paperweight.
 
I'm not worried about rooting now. It's acting like I expect, not the most snappy phone since it's older I understand that, but there's no lag now. Before it was about to become a paperweight b/c I was getting extremely annoyed at how slow it was being, but now it's just moving smoothly from app to app, unlocking quickly (it would struggle before), can get to and make a phone call quickly, ect. I was a little disappointed that it can't get FroYo, but I'm happy with the phone as is. I'll be eligible for upgrade in a year any ways since I'm a premier meraber (ooohhhhhh) at which point I can hopeuflly go to the latest greatest of the time.

I'm really jsut happy to have a smartphone that uses my unlimited plan. The Instinct was worthless, no apps, ok at best software, GPS was the best part, but wasn't true GPS.
 
I got rid of all my AT&T Dookieware© I actually just renamed the .apk files to .durab so it's easily reversible (though I also saved my stock ROM so that's probably redundant.)



The BB is hard to beat as a streamlined business tool for email/contacts. I think Android has a little way to come, but mine works perfect in that capacity when corabined with Google services, like Gmail and Gcalender, however the integration into Outlook isn't the best.

I think the extensibility is also your worst enemy (i.e., don't go app and widget gonzo).



Yeah, I've read there's questionable value with ATK (and any 3rd party task killer). I'll have to check out the current thinking on this again.



I rooted and install the standard Google hotspot app, so I'm able to WiFI tether to multiple devices, using my $30 unlimited data plan and without specifically paying the additional $30 for "tethering". I wonder what will happen with 2.2, since that includes the hotspot app[?] AT&T will probably make their own bungled 2.2 without it (and with their apps).

Honestly I want straight 2.2, no blur/wiz/sense bullshit. I'll add my own launcher and application management tools. All that does is slow up development, because after the plain OS is released, then Moto/Samsung/HTC/Sony have to build their own UI layer.

BTW, my new simple little fave app is Smart Clipboard. You can save small snippets (with a short name) and it runs in the notification area. So then when you need something like an email address, you pull it down, tap and then paste it in. Super helpful for those things (like email) that you're constantly typing and retyping (my two main emails are kind of long and have nurabers too, i.e., PITA).

Yep. You can also install Titanium Backup and remove apps from the backup set (they're not recoverable then unless you flash a new stock ROM), though it also neeRAB root access.
 
Cool. I guess I'll give this a shot, but I'm going to triple check everything before I even attempt it...opposed to winging it like I do with everything else :p.
 
Exported contacts to SD card and it was empty - Fail.

Any ways, I rooted, everything went fine, but now I don't even know how to use root access to uninstall apps. Is there a way to boot as SU or is everything done from a cmd prompt?
 
Command line. I use 'adb' (Android Debugger), which is bundled up with the SDK. Then from your PC, you run 'adb shell' and you're on the device, and then 'su' and you're set with all the standard shell type commanRAB at superuser access.

Actually, I've got the adb in a zip that someone was using to run a update, and it runs without install, or downloading the whole SDK. If you want it vs. the other[?]
