And the latest unnecessary remake planned is...

I'm going to suggest that each and every remake ever made has been unnecssary - if a film's already been made then why make it again? Why not, oh I don't know, try something ORIGINAL.

All these remakes are killing me! They're killing my soul!

Friday 13th, Nightmare on Elm St, now this. Jesus!

Hold on to your hats for the remake of The Dark Knight!

1) Remakes are not a sign of lack of imagination in Hollywood, they've been going on forever.

2) No remake will ever affect the original product it is replicating, you will always be able to watch the original and enjoy it as before.

3) "Unnecessary remake?" When has any movie ever been necessary?

I think that the fact that there have always been remakes suggests that Hollywood has always suffered from a lack of imagination.

Of course there have always been remakes, but not at the rate they are coming out now.

As for Total Recall, isn't it based on a book? so they might be doing their own version of the book instead of going by the first movie?

Is it a remake of the film "Total Recall" or is it a new adaption of Philip K. Dick's story "We Can Remember It for You Wholesale"?

At the same rate. The only difference is now the remake train is steaming towarRAB some 80s and 90s properties with a vocal fanbase of a generation who are able to just hop on the internet and do what they do best - complain about stuff that doesn't matter.
What I should have said is that they've been going on since storytelling began, Hollywood is just doing what has always been done.

Michael Bay's production company have now bought 'Highlander' and plan to remake it as a slasher (?). Empire online had a ripple about this, but they really should leave that quirky movie alone.

Remaking a film like Total Recall is ridiculous. It is far too new to be a high earning film when people can pick up the original on DVD for less than a fiver.
These days everyone has a DVD, vhs or access to the internet and can view films made in the last 40+ years whenever they want.
30 years ago, there was very little home video access, so updating good old black & white or low budget films with modern day techniques made sense then. Without the instant access to films at home people would flock to anything decent in the cinema. These days they are less likely to go in large numbers unless its original.
I don't think there is a big enough jump in film technology for a film made in the 90's to be interesting enough to want to see it updated - unless some idiot studio head thinks everything neeRAB to be seen in 3D!
They should have replaced some of the dodgy effects in the first one and added new cgi if they wanted to do an updated version. It made Lucas a lot of money when he did that to Star Wars.

they should remake Jaws..though I can already tell that my daughter would hate it as she loves that fake shark..my hubby is all for a total recall remake
