That's why police are given the tool of discretion. You break the law you break the law. Doing 66 in a 65 is still speeding, rolling through a stop sign is not coming to a stop, etc and if you're caught the officer is justified in issuing you a citation, arrest, etc.

But again, that's why officers are given discretion for those situations.
 
Or I could just watch the myriad of cop shows on TV where they highlight the dumbest ones.

I have had a few issues. The one I mentioned above being one of them. Others involved an old pickup I used to own that seemed to be a cop magnet. I used to get pulled over for no reason and hear some of the wildest shit excuses and never got a ticket.
 
Delivering a baby can be done by anyone and is rarely a life threatening event.


So what would you have done if you stopped this woman and she told you she was an obgyn and needed to get to the hospital to deliver a baby? Would you just believe her right away and let her drive away? I get lied to all day long bro.
 
labor takes HOURS. the 42 seconds she was going to save by speeding for that mile wasn't going to make a difference.

yes, I did the math. yes, it's 42 seconds. and yes, she ended up waiting an HOUR and still had time to deliver the baby.

The physicians don't stay their all night. It says it happened at night, when all the physicians go home. The only people in house 24/7 are emergency room physicians, unless it's level 1 trauma center.
 
that all depends, we don't know the circumstances of this particular birth or its complications, so we can't assume it was completely normal. they did have her released before she was booked, so its possible she was the only OBGYN available

She spent an hour at the police station and still got to the hospital in plenty of time for the birth. So why was it necessary for her to be going 15 mph over the speed limit?

So it takes 5 minutes of medical training to become an OB/gyn? What the fuck are you guys arguing here? There ARE obstetrical emergencies that NO ONE BESIDES AN OB/GYN IS QUALIFIED TO HANDLE.

I'd ask for the name of the hospital she was headed to, call, and ask. Before I asked for license, registration, or anything. In the event that the doctor didn't wait around I would have followed, detained her at the scene, and then confirmed her story and released her. Not placed her under arrest and taken her down to the station for the cheif to tell me not to book her.

But that's crazy.
