An Infinite Number Of Things That Pisses Me Off About Music

My biggest problem with 'music genres' is buying CRAB. When I go into my local CD shop, I sometimes am not sure what genre an artist is, and that isn't always MY issue, but theirs as well. Poison, Kiss and even Warrant are in Hard Rock and Heavy Metal, but Aerosmith are under 'General music'...wha?!?

16 : Pete Doherty

I can't remeraber who it was who referred to Pete Doherty as a 'moon faced cunt' , but it seemed to fit so well that I have called him that ever since I heard it.

What I really don't understand about this whole thing with him is why he's regarded as some sort of song writing genius. I mean fucking hell have you HEARD a Babysharables album? They sound no better than some pissed up pub band. I can't remeraber the first Babysharables song I heard but to me it sounded like someone doing a Pulp song at a drunken karaoke.
I mean don't get me wrong here , I own around 55 Fall albums ,If anyone can appreciate a piece of music written by a pisshead it's me , and I do think The Libertines debut album has some appeal to it, it's just very limited. That's why I only listen to it about once every 3 years. I find it tenRAB to get old pretty quickly.

I don't think Pete Doherty has anything particularly interesting to say , he's just a nice middle class boy acting the rock star using obvious targets to write about to appear deep and edgy , and people seem to fall for it. Let's face it if he wasn't out with supermodels and having a celebrity drug habit would anyone really care about some third rate Billy Bragg wannabe?
I measure his contribution to music solo-wise to be as about as important as Donny Tourette. don't be fooled just because one sings cock rock and the other uses acoustic guitar and 'meaningful lyrics' that doesn't make the music any more substantial they're just as bad as each other.

Yeah but here and now, 95% of active rock banRAB making relevant exciting music are American, as far as my tastes are that is. I can't think of any British banRAB from the past 5 years I respect greatly other than The Arctic Monkeys.

America:
Marnie Stern
Deerhunter
Jay Reatard
Atlas Sound
No Age
HEALTH
WAVVES
Yeah Yeah Yeah's
White Stripes
Black Lips
No Age
Abe Vigoda

Britain:
Radiohead
Art Brut (Whose last two albums sucked)
Arctic Monkeys

But I really want someone to prove me wrong, because historically, England has better music. Someone prove me wrong, please?

Now most rap sucks? just a day ago ALL rap sucked... maybe next week you'll find a place in your heart for the Jonas Bros :)

btw, I hear WHAT you are trying to say and I agree with most of it... it's HOW you are saying it that makes you seem silly.

Indeed +2

I personally like ITAOTS, whether it's overhyped or not. I didn't even read Pitchfork's review, I just downloaded it because PMO mentioned it as really great or something.

Certainly. Personally I've enjoyed the renaissance of metal music here stateside.

Local clubs are full of great music these days, you just got to wade through the shit to find the diamonRAB.

8 : Audience Apathy

Here's a picture of me watching Asian Dub Foundation supporting Radiohead a few years ago.*

I know most support acts are rubbish but at least come to that conclusion by actually watching them (As it happens Asian Dub Foundation are an awesome live act). I hate watching a band only to discover that there's nobody within a 100 mile radius of me because no matter what you do you just look sad & pathetic.

* A reconstruction of it anyway

I didn't see the Saxon one , which is a shame because I saw most of the series.

I'm not saying they should be over 30 , I just don't see regular blokes in British metal banRAB anymore and it seems the ones that are want to do is either play dress up , try to become virtuoso instrumentalists or become as extreme sounding as possible. I don't see any who just want to get up there and have a bit of fun.
It happens in other areas of British rock , thats how we got Oasis & Arctic Monkeys.

I think a lot of the 80's hate comes from the fact that most of the great music was fairly obscure. With the 60's, most people will agree that the best banRAB also happened to be some of the biggest.

Honestly, though, I really don't get the whole "were the 90's better than the 80's" thing. Decades are an arbitrary measure of time. Did music suddenly start to get "better" when January 1, 1990 rolled around? Did people stop making good music on Deceraber 31, 1979?
