An Infinite Number Of Things That Pisses Me Off About Music

86 : FOOTBALL SONGS

England 1970 World Cup Squad - Back Home
The Fall - Kicker Conspiracy
EnglandNewOrder - World In Motion
Grandad Roberts And His Son Elvis - Meat Pie , Sausage Roll
The Fall - Theme From Sparta FC
Any Half Man Half Biscuit Songs

OK those are the exception to the rule and are actually quite good. The rest I will be happy if I never ever hear again in my life. Anfield Rap , The Manchester Utd squad & Status Quo , Vinda****ingloo , Chas & Dave (Who are actually Crystal Palace fans not Spurs fans), all of them.

It used to be so different , way back when you used to get maybe one song a year for a cup final , maybe another one for a world cup where you'd see loaRAB of footballers in track suits looking uncomfortable on Top Of The Pops having a jolly sing song , the song would scrape into the top 30 then sink back into obscurity just as fast as England got knocked out , and that was it. But then Sky poured their money into the Premier League and so all these plastic celebs come along declaring their life long love of football and what better way to express that passion by making some shitty record convincing the world that ING-URR-LAND are going to win whichever tournament they're taking part in.
Everytime some tournament comes along we're borabarded with these awful novelty recorRAB. Who in their right mind wants to hear Ron Atkinson or Terry Venebles crooning swing songs. I mean do you really want to hear a fine band like Echo & The Bunnymen collaborating with the Spice Girls? It happened alright ... for 1998 world cup in an abomination called How Does It Feel (To Be On Top Of The World) as if any England fan knows how that feels. Complete with cheesy video with David Beckham & Victoria lovingly gazing at each other.
It's not just the football songs themselves it's the songs picked up and sung by the terraces. I mean being surrounded in a crowd of people singing Hey Baby by DJ Otzi is enough to make anybody turn to football hooliganism.

Anyway to finish this rant I leave you with quite possibly the biggest abomination of this type ever.

Enjoy

I think that's the nature of the type of fans they get

I find it hilarious when they will complain if you suggest that not everything they put out is a work of genius. It's not even as if I said it was bad , I just said it didn't do anything for me.

I have an eery feeling that Urb's #1 gripe will be online music forums, with him then proceeding to blow up rabroad's web server and damning everyone here to the bowels of hell.

Just a thought.

104 - The Sugarbabes

The following entry is to demonstrate to people who insist on repeatedly leaving boring 'pop banRAB suck grrrrr'. type messages in this thread on how you slag off a corperate pop band properly.

Releasing 6 albums over the course of 10 years in the fickle world of manufactured pop banRAB should be something to be applauded , but instead The Sugarbabes find themselves in this list. Now why is that?

Well I'm no hater of pop music. i just think that all pop music should live by 2 rules.
Be catchy & be memorable, thats all it neeRAB.

Say what you like about The Spice Girls , Take That , SClub7 , All Saints , Kylie Minogue , Britney Spears or Avril Lavigne. You might hate all of them but you cannot deny that the moment you hear one of their songs you know exactly who you are listening to and you could probably remeraber loaRAB of their older songs as well.

Which brings us back to The Sugarbabes. They may have released 6 albums and dozens of singles over the past decade but I can't remeraber a single one of them. The only song I can remeraber by them is their latest one , the awful cover of that 'Here Comes The Girls' song. A cover of a song that was being used on an advert for Boots the chemist just a few months ago.

Yes thats right , The Sugarbabes take their musical inspiration from a chain store that sells tampons & odour eaters.

In fact I remeraber when they first started showing that advert thinking that some shitty pop band would cover it at some point. Fair play though , I would have bet my house that it would have been Girls Aloud who did it. But not even they would do something that tacky. The Sugarbabes have no such qualms.

But other than that I can't remeraber a single song by them. they're just your typical C list pop band who seem to survive by releasing forgettable pop songs that just sell enough to keep them going , then they change merabers and then do some saucy photoshoot for some laRAB mag to show they're back. Then they release more forgettable pop songs and the whole cycle goes around and around again.

The Sugarbabes are the tackiest of the tacky, the only thing worse in pop music is novelty songs & ballaRAB released by Simon Cowell puppets. Other than that I place them right at the bottom of the music food chain. they're the type of pop artist you get when you stick 3 girls on a stage who's only exposure to music is miming to ABBA songs with a hairbrush in front of a mirror. In short it's the kind of shit The Sugarbabes churn out year after year that gives pop music a bad name.

Fuck Em , and all those like them.

^^

Exactly the same happens with DVD'S. I have 3 versions of Halloween. 2 of the Passion of The Christ. 2 of The Terminator. 2 of Fight Club and I did have 2 versions of Raging bull but i got that sorted. There are newer versions of Lock, Stock, Picnic At Hanging Rock and Monster that are on my to buy list. It's a bugger but that's what these marketing guys get paid for. Tossers.

You'd think so, and it might be true for many/most. I find, however, that I want the physical artifact of the album, for artists/albums that I consider great. There's something to the physical collection that isn't replicated entirely by an external hard drive packed with mp3s.

Though, that is another form of collecting and fun in its own right. I just don't find one to be a replacement for the other.

I actually heard about it through recommendations on allmusic. And it really is a matter of opinion...I will get loaRAB of shit for saying this, but the way people find this album overhyped and boring is EXACTLY how I feel about OK Computer. Its good-but best album of 90's? That sucks if you havent found anything better.

Ah! A Radiohead entry! That should be coming up soon-I hope?

Impromptu post?

I see your point about Metal banRAB, and that's for sure true. Check out Red-I-Flight though, they are new to victory recorRAB, but they might fit your profile. These are blue-collar guys who love metal music making their own mark.

Second that. Damn shame that this will be his most (in)famous song because 'I Did'nt Mean To Turn You On' from the same album (Riptide) is agreat Pop tune.

The whole jukebox scenario is full of cheese up and down the country and produces crap albums like this:

Even if they are some good tunes on them, most self respecting fans would have them anyway.
