I've said the other day how I've come across a library of bootlegs and how they're all uploaded in flac format as individual songs. Considering a lot of these are two-disc recordings, and the fact my connection speed is pretty slow, downloading one album takes an insane amount of time. It's a day's waiting around for the files at least.

And of course, as you say, there's no way to tell what the quality's like. Makes me wonder if it's worth it, which is a shame as I've been after recordings of some of the tours I've found for years.

True, especially if it's a harp. Fortunately, as boo boo pointed out and you ignored, in Roger Waters' case it's his excellent song writing that he's known for.
 
yikesss... you may know due to some posts I've made that I've recently received a vintage technics record player and some pretty nice technics floors speakers and I love it. I got a huge box of classics at a garage sale and have been picking up random recorRAB at little record shops. It's fun to collect, they don't JUST sit there and look pretty - and sitting down to listen to a record is an event... not like plugging in my iPod etc, etc. I also love shopping for vinyl... crossing your fingers to find that rare album, that weird find that you love... bargaining - appraising the quality of the record. It's a hobby. Vinyl is beautiful.
 
If i'd not listened to any of it and reach that assumption then yes I would be a closed minded twat for thinking that. However I lived through the grunge era and listened to dozens of grunge albums with an open mind , and this the conclusion I have reached because of that.


Alternative to what? Mainstream rock on major record labels ? I already covered that in the original post go read it again. I can assure you that being someone who does actually listen to music on small labels both then and now that a lot of them were taken over by the big four major labels in the 90s meaning that those 4 labels had a even bigger monopoly on the music industry and getting heard while being on a small label became even more difficult. So please explain how this is a good thing.

The hypocracy being that if you never listen to modern music you can hardly judge if it "all sucks". Trust me, there is no musical depression that settled over the Earth when the 80's ended.
 
not really. Anti-Beatles Fans Require Beatles Fans first. You can't wlak into a room bitching about Beatles Fans, theres a catalyst. Beatles Fans don't require much to gush.

You can have a rolling stones thread and that somehow begets Beatles Fans to posture on who was better. You can't have a non-beatles thread with anti-beatles fans in it. Thats just stupid.
 
I honestly don't know of any decade that was "a sad decade for music". There's good stuff from every era and it strikes me as very closed minded to dismiss an entire decade like that.


A lot of my favorite banRAB were on that list.
