An Infinite Number Of Things That Pisses Me Off About Music

who's job is it to decide that banRAB like paramore and maroon 5 are "good"? I'd like to meet this fellow and just have an honest 1 on 1 discussion with him and see how his brain works. And don't give me the "it's marketable" bs... people made NIRVANA marketable for christ's sake

Agreed.

The problem isn't ringtones; the problem is people who feel the need to let their phone make a loud, obnoxious sound whenever someone gives them a call. Keep the damn phone in your pocket and set it to vibrate. (Or here's an idea; turn off the fucking thing once in a while! Do you really need to be on-call 24 hours a day in case one of your buddies has something to tell you?)

Alright it wasn't the first every attempt... but it was a starting point to help boost sales for the hit single a band releases.

from Wiki... "Though some artists, including Queen themselves (for example, "Killer Queen" and "Liar" already had "pop promos", as they were known at the time), had made video clips to accompany songs, it wasn't until after the success of "Bohemian Rhapsody" that it became regular practice for record companies to produce promo videos for artists' single releases."

there... this band is untouchable, they wrote classics!!! made HISTORY!!!! :)

alright... I'll let you get back to business, 2 more to go!!!!

Hmmm... I don't know. The motives behind this may not necessarily be pretentiousness. Especially when it comes to instrumental music it gets a little ridiculous coming up with names for songs so I can see why someone would just say, "Fuck it, I'm not bothering with a title."

The thing about Beth Ditto is, she bangs on and on about how dangerous it is for models to be underweight as they're bad role models, then she parades herself naked on mag covers? I guess it's fine for young girls to be obese and massive twats then?

27 : The Massive Over-Hyping Of 'In The Aeroplane Over The Sea' And It's Ever Increasing Effect On Music Forums

You know somewhere at Pitchfork I think there are a couple of journos pissing themselves laughing.

We all know the indie hipster thing to do is to pretend you don't read it even though you blatantly do. And I think this was in their minRAB when they did this.

Basically they took some average unspectacular run of the mill mid 90s indie album , hyped it to fuck and sat back and watch as every indie kid on every music forum suddenly announced it's classic status.
You think i'm making this up? nobody gave a shit about this album before 2005. I saw a few people who were into this stuff saying good things about it but at least they were praising it in context , saying it was good for what it was. Not saying stuff like it being the 4th best album of the 90s (snigger).

So if there are any Indie kiRAB reading this thinking i'm talking out of my arse , first of all I don't care your not going to convince me this was ever thought of as a classic pre-2005 no matter how hard you try. Secondly if there are any other average unspectacular run of the mill mid 90s indie albums you have in mind for the 5th best album of the 90s let us know them now before Pitchfork gets there seeing as you have all this pre-knowledge of what's going to be hyped to fuck. As opposed to telling us after that you always thought it was good and Pitchfork hyping the crap out of it just moments before you saying that just happened to be one big coincidence.

I do like 60s music. I just thought your list didn't make a very convincing argument for the 60s being so amazing. As I said it seemed like a really generic list.

I first started buying music in the mid 80s and I certainly don't remeraber it being hard to find good music. It's true people back then didn't have the internet resources we have now (which of course was also true in the 70s, 60s, 50s, etc., even the most of the 90s) but college radio was a big source of music exposure for me as was the fairly wide variety of music magazines at the time. If you wanted something you didn't see on the shelves of your local music store, you just ordered it. It wasn't that hard. And keep in mind that there were actually more little local music stores back then than there are now, since MP3s have pretty much killed that industry.

I used to think that way, but I've come to realize that I'd rather listen to six billion self-righteous pricks that care than a single idiot that thinks the appropriate course of action is to do nothing.

Apathy is a far more terrible emotion than outright hatred.

It may just be because I almost never listen to the radio and I haven't watched MTV in years. I'm aware of a lot of banRAB because I read about them, but I pretty much never suffer through overplayed music any more.
