Hi all,

This has been bugging me all morning and i've been searching around the internet to try and find out what a particular movie is called!

I saw a trailer about 2 nights ago. It's a horror movie, the trailer was only very short but it looked like there was a woman half naked, pleading for her life and she looked as though she was about to be tortured on an operating table.

This is all I can remember as it was only very short.

Did anybody else see this trailer - I think it was on Channel 4 or perhaps ITV1.

Thanks in advance :)

What sort of enjoyment does one get watching a woman half naked and pleading for her life while being tortured on an operating table? How on earth is that 'awesome'?

I guess the idea that it could happen to you if you were kidnapped in a foreign country, the being scared cos it's a hooror film cf. saw, hostel etc

Some people like to be scared. I enjoy getting a good dvd, settling down with the lights off and being scared silly. I like the anticipation, and being made to jump in fright. Sadly there's very few films that actually hit the mark anymore, I must be old and jaded, but I still watch the films just incase.

I get scared really easily - pathetic I know:o - so I tend to avoid most horror films.

However I think a good scary film doesn't necessarily need a lot of the more overt torture style scenes which seem to have become prevelant in the last couple of years - I'm thinking "Hostel" type films.

Good grief I know that makes me sound dangerously close to being a fuddy duddy Mary Whitehouse type and that I have only ever seen clips of such films rather than the films themselves so I can't say I am excatly qualified to comment but I would be interested in other peoples views.

In response to those who said how can you find a film like that enjoyable ...

I find with films (and books etc) that I like anything which can stir an emotion. That's why I don't really have a favourite type of film.

If a film can stir any emotion in me which I believe, then it is a good film in my opinion. That emotion could be an uplifting one (be it humour or "life-affirmation") a supressing one (fear), grief, love, loss or even a disgusting one (anyone seen hostel??).

Doesn't make you sound fuddy duddy, and I agree to a large extent. I like the gory films from time to time, but I much prefer something that is genuinely scarey rather than something that goes all out purely to shock and offend by using copious amounts of tomato ketchup. This is one of the reasons why I think the Japanese/Asian market is so good - their films are truely chillers. Then they are remade by Hollywood and are dumbed down/increased in gore, with the effect that a lot of the emotion is lost in translation.

My husband is a huge fan of Japanese/Asian horror and he always says the same thing. He tells me they are really good at creating that tingling hair going up on the back of your neck feeling! I know he has seen a few of the American remakes but he has felt the same - they have lost a lot of the otherworldliness which made them so fascinating yet chilling.
