Such a waist of real news, that's probably a clever publicity stunt to get people to buy the album (didn't know the movie soundtrack sold well enough to get interest in a new album). I saw a little clip of it mentioned in EW where they have a picture of 80s Alvin next to him saying "Alvin leaves the Chipmunks. No big loss: everyone knows Theodore is the secret star." - PG.16, issue #1016 Oct 17, 08.
What I do like is the fake news idea. Giving some background character development to characters you wouldn't normally think have social disorders and personal problems that affect how their cartoons are made. It's still fake news but sadly it's of a franchise I would be happy to hear that was breaking up. XD
